So why won’t Discord do it? They want to be like Sears, who were really the first mail order place, and let Amazon come along and put them into Bankruptcy and extinction?

The temporary fix of having a bot do it will stop working in less than 6 months, when they make all bots with command access use slash commands instead of their special lead character commands. Which means any bot capable at the moment will have to be re-written to accept /slash commands.

Wow. Just wow.... I'm a total noob on discord and I thought something like this would be a simple feature. Apparently Discord places ZER0 value on user input... Can't even do this in the paid version??? Are there ANY alternatives that are worthwhile, I wonder...?

[Opens new tab and starts searching.....]

*Wonder how many times THAT has been repeated...

Hopefully someone will come along and give us a substitute for Discord. Plenty of entrepreneurs out there with the knowledge to do it.

Like most who commented here, I was searching on Google how to move messages, as it seemed such a feature would be basic common sense (since it's available in most web forum softwares since before 1999), only to discover there is no way to move messages yet. This is a feature that simply must be available.

My suggestion for this is that there should be at least a disclaimer under the message saying that "This message was moved from x channel".

I think the problem with the feature lies that there isn't a system in place that allows discord to place messages between other messages in a channel. The moved messages would needed to be place on the bottom of the channel, possibly causing confusion with other discussions.

However, if you were to move discussions, you could use the new Threads feature, to move whole chunks of discussions within a new thread on another channel, to avoid confusion.

Want to echo the request for this feature. Would be a very nice tool to have.

    We need this feature!!!!

I'm just gonna keep bumping this until we get it! Hopefully threads will help in some way... Moving convos to a thread on a different channel seems like it could work!!

Maybe we should be commenting each of us once a day, maybe they will notice at one moment

Yesterday I spent several hours to find out that discord is missing this one really basic feature server moderation! Fuuuu :(

I'm perfectly happy to go along with a "keep pestering them until they fix it" approach, myself.

I also find it interesting that I got notified by email of a followup comment that mentioned a Somebody Else with the feature but that said message has since been removed. I was going to say that I hadn't heard of them previously and so would have to check them out, but I guess that sort of thing isn't kosher here. Hm.

Guilded has the ability to move messages, I'm going to check it out.

Yeah I'm starting to think guilded is the new way to go... Since Discord can't implement simple stuff... We've given them a chance to reply to this message chain (More than long enough). It's time to move on y'all.

Just to recap on why this feature may not be implemented. Apparently, the way the whole solution was architected, it is not easy to implement the "move" feature without redesigning the entire solution. That said, there is a way to work around it using a bot. What Discord should do at the very least is support the bot and implement an official version of the bot as a feature.

"When you can't do something yourself, support others to do it for you..."

I've also been looking into alternatives. Last I checked both Slack and Teams had similar limitations on moving stuff.

Gonna give Keybase a shot here soon (already using it for other stuff anyway).

May look into Guilded if that won't cut it for my small "friends" server.

Really, there is no reason why it could not be done except that they do not feel like doing so.
...Unless all Discord developers are just too unimaginative to figure out how it should be done, as far as message ordering, timestamps, and so forth.

Logically, that should be easy: When a message or selected group of messages are moved, it would simply create a new copy, using the original author's name, current timestamp at the time of the move, and prepend a text note saying something similar to, "Originally posted in #channel, on July 4, at 9:45pm."

If the concerns are about privacy in different channel categories only available to specific roles, then simply have the "move to..." selection limited to only channels in the same channel category.

As for the code or method... Well, I don't know Discord's code myself, but I have not yet met any language that would be unable to simply copy and repost a message in the database, set the author to the original author, use the current timestamp, and prepend text to state where it was moved from.

It would be nice to hear something official from Discord Development to explain why this would seem so impossible for them. It's almost as if they can't figure it out, so they won't let anybody help because it would prove them wrong in their believing it to be impossible.

^ Agreed, I just want Discord to acknowledge this need and tell us anything official. Even if they can't or don't want to, instead of leading us on.

They should analyzing threads to see how many unique posters there are, and if they are the same people posting every day would not change that count.

The entire front page has 3 comments. This thread has 563.

I am hoping for this feature as well, would be really nice to be able to move things that are posted in the wrong channels.

  • Tiina Onir

Why did they implement the threads "feature" that noone really wanted, the "schools" feature noone wanted, but this and exempting "verified" (non)games are still nowhere to be found?

  • Ryan Hellyer 🦇 🍄

This blows my mind that it's been this long, and yet no progress has been made on this. I would have thought this was one of the very first features that would be implemented. Moving posts seems like a no-brainer for software like this.

Is there a reason we STILL don't have this option?

  • Mika Lindqvist

Obviously Discord developer(s) have no intention to read this thread so we can pretty much write anything here or just go elsewhere and do something more useful...

We're basically making ourselves look like fools trying to believe we can make a real difference where Discord as an application evolves... The captain has left the ship the Costa Concordia style...

  • rannyrunt

So we still don't have updates for this? Would be a pretty nifty feature, especially since a lot of the important discussions get raised and buried in the general chat/ lounge. Would also save us the time to monitor discussions and remind them when they're using the wrong channel, or break off a really engaging conversation by asking them to move.

Adding a plus one to the recommendation to move mult. messages in a single go.

    any updates? We need this!
