flagged account "verify by phone"
I do not own a cellphone, and for anyone else who does not own a cellphone the "verify by phone" process for when an account is flagged just doesnt make sense.

This is so true i have been using discord for almost 2 months now and i am loving it especially the freinds i have made and now my perfectly normal acc is asking me to verify by phone i put it in and boom invalid phone number im locked out of my acc the discord staff needs to fix this issue by either changing the verify procced or getting rid of it for something else

...Discord intends to use and keep their phone verification system in place (with its faulty UI and no way to convince it that any given number is valid), and reCAPTCHA with all of its failings, and attempts to confront them about those issues get people directed to the ticket system to be told everything is as intended or this useless feedback/forum system so that suggestions/complaints can be put together for a voting system and summarily acknowledged or ignored. For both "verification" systems, there are some major problems, and both of them rely on external systems and factors commonly beyond users' control. If the phone verification or reCAPTCHA has an issue, the user may not know there is a problem, Discord does not have to know or care there is a problem, and the effect is simple: users don't get in. If users are rejected, are they told why or just given stupid errors or put through the process again? Is there any proper exception handling? No cell phone, no phone at all, country not recognized by the "verification" system, system not able to use a certain country/range? How about reCAPTHCA being stupid for 10 minutes straight?I would appreciate this post being incorrect, but after having a ticket open/reopened/ignored/dropped for 2 weeks, I see no signs of improvement or change of method being planned. I therefore conclude that the defects are in effect intentionally.

I put in a support request for this same issue on Sunday. They initially responded asking me for a screenshot. I sent it to them and have not heard anything since. PLEASE HELP!!!

I just got Discord a couple of weeks ago and I got that same message. I only have a Landline. They should add a verify by Email.

they should at least add an email verification instead, it would be more convenient for most people as most dont have a phone.

I should add that i was using a cell phone at the time. It was not a burner phone and the country code was correct.

Ugh. This is stupid. My account is not accepting any numbers. I've tried several. Some were my family members, others were my friends numbers; and none of them worked.

I am having an issue.. I am locked out.. I have a number to input.. BUT WHERE THE HELL IS THE TEXT BAR.. WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO TYPE THE NUMBER? IT JUST A WHITE SCREEN.. SOMEONE HELP.. GOD.

Then, if you get a phone number accepted by the system, it sends only SMS/text instead of voice... so if you don't have that plan/feature/compatibility with their system, you are still rejected.

Not only being locked out, but now I tried using my parents phone and I am being rate limited for not knowing how you enter it in the box.

I know how to solve this. I had my account flagged for verify by phone. I just created a new account, used that for a couple of days, then tried to log in to my old account. if that didn't work, i used my mom's phone number as i do not have a phone. It worked.

I fell victim to this.... I don't own a FREAKING PHONE... So I can't do crap discord promised they don't collect data on users yet they need your phone number? complete and utter stupidity though I can see why but come on why not email verification why phone come on...

Why not doing Recaptcha verification? Discord haves Captcha when logging in so why not for verification doing recaptcha instead of phone verification?

Alright discord needs to see this as an actual problem... for a blog to continue after 2 years about a problem means something. Discord is literally at Roblox level with updates and how it runs around here. We can all agree this lock sucks alot and discord doesn't give a damn about the people who have lost accounts for over 2 years now! I hope someday discord can see this blog, even if it means spamming it in their dms or emails. Either way, I don't want this happening to accounts anymore.

Yup! Discord is locking out legit users and denying potential new users. Some people just can't or won't provide a cell phone number for a service like Discord. It's a shame.
