@silent / muted message / no notification
Allow @silent messages to prevent people from getting notification. If some people still want to get @silent messages notifications you can add a feature to allow people to do that in settings and send them notification anyway.
Recently I have been chatting with my brother, and he went to sleep, though, he doesn't mute his phone. I wanted to write to him, so he would get a message in the morning but I was worried that I may wake him up. So I started searching for feature like sending silent messages but I couldn't find a solution.
Thanks

4 years on, this feature has now been added to Discord. Type @silent before a message, and it will not send a notification to the user - a small "bell" symbol will appear in the top right of the sent message to let you know that it is a silent message.
For example: "@silent hey mate, I know it's the middle of the night so I won't disturb you, but when you wake up and see this, please could you let me know what time you're free for the movie night".
