Mobile app message notifications

Whenever I am using the mobile app, if I receive a direct message, I will get one notification. But if I open the chat and reply, then return to another app, I will not receive any other notifications from discord no matter how many messages I receive. The result is that I will receive a message from my friend to play a game, I will respond, and then since discord won't telll me he texted back, it looks like I'm ignoring him. Please find a way to fix this so I can actually use the app to communicate and and know when people reply to me, like how it should be.
