Push to talk on mobile phones using headphones volume button/playpause button

Is there any way to override volume increase/decrease input or playpause input from headphones on mobile? If so, it would be very nice option to use these buttons as push to talk not as volume/play and while walking outside, there is no need to take phone out from pocket, and worry about background noise, when using "voice activity".
