This is why the new UI is awful.
This is easily the worst update in the history of Discord updates. I'm usually the guy who embraces changes like these, but this is seriously making me consider going back to Skype.
First of all, why on earth would you make each message you hover over a darker shade of grey? It is awful to mouse over the messages of people who do not type everything in a single message.
Secondly, the Emoji bar, the thing that people seem to hate the most. Yeah, I hate it, everyone on my server absolutely hates it. I don't want to add a reaction, why is it so bloated? The old way of adding reactions was a hundred times better.
Last of all, the spacing. If I wanted compact mode I would select compact mode. Oh, and what is with the displaying the time the message was sent in two different locations? It is like you are trying to find a reason to pay someone for work that doesn't even need to be done.
So yeah, everyone in my server hates this update, and that is why. There isn't even an option to revert to the old Discord, which sucks. I forgot to mention, the red "NEW" message bar that separates the chats is annoying- I don't need a reminder that a message is "NEW" every second. Really disappointed that Discord went through with this update, maybe they are just tired of it all and are trying to kill their app.
I am cancelling my Discord Nitro and I encourage you all to do the same, until they stop making these awful changes. I guarantee the next awful change will be to the perfectly designed sidebars.

While I agree with the most (the emoji popup, the highlight on hover) being annoying, about the spacing it was a good thing. You can adjust the spacing in settings if you want it like before. Customization is all.

the compact mode spacing feels bloated now compared to what it used to be,
the lack of lines, the gaps between your own messages and just the general experience is not fun
it's like they're trying to make compact mode and normal mode the same thing but just without icons

The new Nitro bar at the top trying get me to buy their overpriced nonsense is wasting gobs of space. I'm at the point of digging into the program itself to figure out a way to delete that. I'm not buying $10 a month for the pleasure of a few pixels, and putting it at the top to beg me to give them money means I will only stop using the app.
It's wild how they force updates without the consideration of user experience or hardware. You'd think tech people who have any idea why that's a bad idea.
