Sound that won't stop

Keeps making some kind of bloop! ever few seconds how do I silence this

  Hi. New here. I hear the sound, as well. What is that "bloop"? No activity going on in the threads I'm connected to. Is someone trying to get my attention, and I'm not seeing the button to check? Kind of annoying. I don't want to turn volume down in case I miss something important here.

  I figured it out - my bad - the "bloop" is coming from new posts.There were threads I didn't notice that I had.
