Unread mentions

First of all a bug: I have no unread text-channels on a server but my discord mobile app (android) still has a unread (red number 1) notification on the server.

That bug is a part of a bigger problem: the notification system is terrible (possibly broken even), extremely complex and not at all user-friendly. 

I've spent so much time trying to get only the most important notifications from a server. Muting things completely shouldn't take half an hour and still not even work. I went through all the channels muting them one by one (shouldn't be needed) except for a few that give important information. And @everyone still overrides my settings and gives me a unread mention notification.

Yes I have read guides on how to mute everything on discord. I have spent way more time on this problem than this thread so don't complain that I should just read up how to mute: because if I have to Google it and still can't get it to work the system is the problem and not the users.
