[Suggestion] DM Without Friending
While most users use Discord with their friend requests/DMs open entirely, there are those of us who don't. YouTubers, streamers, and all other types of content creators love using Discord; often times, it is our main form of communication with friends and supporters!
I have DMs turned off for almost all of the servers I am in, and I keep my friend requests open to only those with mutual friends.
HOWEVER- I would love to be able to send someone a DM before accepting their friend request. There are often cases where I want to say hi and ask them if they needed anything etc. but not add them to my friends list, as I like to keep it for people who I actually know.
This isn't a huge deal, but being able to DM someone who has an active friend request sent to you (they wouldn't be able to send messages until you either message them first or accept the request) would be fantastic!

How will you know if you want them to be your friend if they cannot communicate?
The issue is not really needing to block the sending of a message but one of limiting the disruption caused by receiving unsolicited messages. If you can receive a friend request, this should be enough to allow a DM channel to be opened but eliminate notifications until the friend request is accepted or notifications are explicitly enabled.
