Priority Mode
So you log on Discord only to get spammed by notifications, so you set your state to Do No Disturb, silence at last! Now you minimize Discord to play some game but what's this? You decide to throw a glance at your Discord and see that your friend was messaging you! Oh no! And let's just assume it was important and now your response is 30 minutes late :/ So here's my proposal: Priority Mode! The icon can be like a little blue arrow going upwards, imagine if Do Not Disturb and Online had a baby. Priority mode let's you set users that you will receive notifications from, the users you put in the "Green list" Will be the ones you get notifications from, so i put Alex and James in the green list or priority list and i will get notification from them normally. Anyone i didn't select gets automatically put in the Non-Priority list. So, i'm sorry Mike but i don't want your notification sometimes.

I think that custom status is not a good idea, but this "green list" doesnt sound bad.

So, what you're saying is that it shouldn't be obvious when someone is on Priority only mode? But you can still add people to the "green list" and it just looks like DND to a third party observer?
