Team Roles
(Reddit post! It's the exact same...)
Ok, so this idea is a bit strange, but here it goes
So I've noticed a lot when groups, streamers mainly, are all in a discord call/voice channel and some of them are on a different team, but everyone wants to stay in the same voice channel.
I have come up with an idea that I will be calling "Team Roles" for now.
Team roles will act the exact same as regular roles; they will have the same permission abilities, but they're side by side, instead of one over the other.
It would work like this: An admin gives you (example) the Red | Blue role. You then pick red or blue, and you are now stuck with that "side" of the role, unless you, too, have admin permissions (specifically the manage roles permission). Then, when you go into channel (both voice and text) there will be a new switch called "merge teams" which will basically make the two teams be able to see each other's chats.
When this setting is switched off, chats will be colorized (more on how later) based on what team you are assigned, and you will only be able to see that color chat. If you have administrator privileges, you will see both chats regardless of the setting.
Same goes for voice channels. Team-specific chatting will be enabled when the setting is switched off.
Note: I'm guessing since people don't want to have to go into the channel permissions every time they want to change it, there can probably be hot key or key bind for this situation.
Something that I think is very important is how the chats will be highlighted.
Two ways I have thought of are
a) just color the chat. -- obviously, this won't be too hard to do, and definitely one of the easier options.
b) outline the chats in the color. -- This would be a tad bit more difficult, given that
c) a little bit of both. -- yeah, that's it lol
d) like b, but instead color the entire background and not just the outside. -- This would make it much more apparent for admins what team people are on.
Note: When you mention one side of the team, (let's say blue, and not red) you would write @, then red | blue, so it looks like @ red | blue and then you would click on the blue side. It will read "@ blue" and that would be that.
Another Note: This can be used past teams, and more like a "Normal" to "Important" role. It could be something like white/yellow for colors, and that way when the "Important" role speaks, they would be highlighted a bit to show off that they did something important to get a cool new role.
