The New UX Design is Harmful to the Visually Impaired and Colorblind
-
Saturated dark colors against dark backgrounds are hard to read and difficult to parse
-
White mentions lack visual clarity and are incredibly harmful to individuals with visual impairment
-
Color redesign lacks contrast and are harmful for individuals who are colorblind and/or visually impaired
-
Elements lack unity
-
Saturated, mid-value colors covering large fields are harmful to end-users
-
Text contrast with new colors fail the WCAG test
These are catastrophic design failures for the new UX, and directly harms both end-users due to eye-strain, and directly harms visually impaired individuals due to lack of visual clarity. It makes the app less accessible, and is not only visually displeasing, but actively ableist in nature.
UX design is a way to promote a widely-used application for all consumers. This inherently limits the customer-base by increasing visual clutter and decreasing clarity through contrast. Moreover, information is harder to parse, decreasing the end-user's ability to accurately read information within the application, and increasing eye-strain.
This is not good UX design. It is the opposite. It harms end-users. Revert the changes.

I had to delete discord shortcut from home screen on my phone because of new color. It's way too saturated. I get distracted by it every time I unlock my phone.

I would like to contribute that it severely hurts my eyes. Just make it less blue and less saturated. I can tell where this color is, it's in the most saturated corner on the color picker and that is never a good place to pick from. even a little softer would be nice, but the option to go back to old blurple is a MUST. This isn't about "people throwing a fit over the new logo" you are actively harming people with your color choices.

We need OG Blurple back.
It doesn't hurt our eyes. The rest of the color changes are fine. The logo is fine. We need OG Blurple back.6 -
i genuinely dont understand why they decided to make the colors more saturated. above all else why was that something that needed to be done :[

The new blue color causes me eye strain. It's super saturated/vivid, not sure how to describe it other than that it makes my eyes hurt similar to how light mode does (although there I have the option to use dark mode which is just fine). The old blue color was softer and didn't cause me eye strain. Please revert the color.

discord largely ignoring its disabled user base is horrifying. it's been more than two weeks and they haven't said ANYTHING about the inaccessibility the new UI and branding creates. does the team even really look at this forum ?

So, this happened for me few days ago. Is there "go back" or "violate ToS to fix eyes" button anywhere? The issue here is that the black in the profile background is too black and makes in troublesome to read roles and stuff. Reaction buttons are just... in the same style as the new logo? I don't think notsobot devs are related to this, especially after last changes. Both things are annoying, not to mention that I can't change the colour which appears above my user card because it's taken automatically from pfp, but in my case it would make more sense to use blue because of the background in pfp. Of course this is not possible to edit.

UPD: It changed, now it's... brown? Still doesn't let me change it to whatever I want and this is sad.
UPD2: I'm back to being orange. How does this thing even work???

Here we are, week 3 over. 21 days that we've been begging for help. Begging for relief. And not a single g*dd**nd reply or acknowledgement. And now I'm starting to see folks being called a 'troll' for speaking up about this. Discord and Koto are deleting tweets where people were critical of them... it's just... yeah. I guess I'm going to be finding a new service.

Somehow, Discord has managed to add additional features that cause strain. I've always had a hard time with white text on a really dark background, and the little popout profiles are exactly that. And is there any setting to change the colors? Of course not.
JuSt SwItCh To LiGhT mOdE, some might say. But that has it's own set of issues for me. The old Discord colors were a nice middle ground, but the further away they move from that, the harder it gets for me to keep using Discord. If it weren't for all the friends I have on Discord, I'd have migrated platforms already. As it stands, I'm still very tempted.

It appears they did respond on Reddit 6 days ago. It’d have been nice to have a public statement, not a Reddit comment on an ancient post… https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/nbilz1/a_fresh_new_look_to_celebrate_our_6th_birthday/h09aq5a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

Blurple just got to me and I really don't understand how people in Discord don't worry about anything for doing this with so many people. Here's a quick review at this awfulness if someone haven't got it yet (lucky).
At least I can say that now neither of those who made this "redesign" gets to heaven.
UPD: Saturation option affects APP ICONS? But why? (can't post an image because this website decided that 90KB + 9KB > 2MB).

I don't like the saturation slider. I'm given the choice to desaturate everything or not... I don't want all colours to be muddy and harder to distinguish from each other... This opens up a whole new accessibility issue. :(

This is exactly what I’ve been trying to tell them. This is what everyone’s been trying to tell them. This isn’t a solution. This just makes more problems, if they would just do what people had asked from the get-go and giving us different color schemes, or the ability to pick color features for the app? And then those of us with sensitivities can just set the individual colors aside. But no, all we get is this blanket bullshit that makes it even harder to read everything else.

So I've just come back to discord after not using it for a month or two. I can't read the user names in the chat anymore because the colours have changed. After searching through for a "fix" all I can come up with is a saturation slider. This is terrible. Not only do I have to go to settings, adjust it then come out again to see what the change looks like, it messes with other colours too and now I just see a grey page.
I would rather see colours (like I could before) than a greyscale page.
Is there a way to change it back to whatever the colours were before?

the saturation slider isn't all or nothing. i've found that ~60% gets you back to old discord
-1 -
I understand it’s variable but I have to take it to 0 to make it easy enough to see. 60% isn’t enough.

if you are willing to break ToS you can have a look at BetterDiscord for Desktop and Aliucord for Android phones.
sadly no other way to get a usable discord experience at this point.1 -
@flurryshy thanks for those pointers. It turns out the role colours could be changed by the admin and that has been enough to get me by for now.
I might give those a crack for “curiosity sake” though

Has anyone from discord actually addressed this?
1 -
hah... no.
this forum is basically unmonitored. I still have a post that is "pending approval"... for 4 months now.
I highly doubt discord will ever address this. it just affects to few people for them to actually care or do something about, even though it would have been a stupidly easy thing to do - especially compared to the overengineered desaturate-everything-slider.
