Proposal to Change File Name Encoding to UTF-8 When Uploading Files (or Provide an Optional Setting)
Hello, Discord team,
I am a user from South Korea who absolutely loves using Discord. Discord has evolved beyond being just a space for gamers and is now expanding as a community platform and collaborative tool. Personally, I utilize Discord channels for gaming and also use it as a team tool for enhancing productivity at my workplace.
I am reaching out to address a significant concern I've encountered while using Discord.
Issue
My improvement request pertains to file uploads, where file names are changed to alphanumeric characters if they contain non-English characters. It seems that the absence of encoding options like UTF-8 during the upload process might be the reason for this issue. From a user's perspective, it's inconvenient not to be able to see the original file names.
Besides the inconvenience, I'd like to highlight the following reasons for requesting this improvement:
- Catering to Discord's Multilingual Users:
- Users from diverse linguistic backgrounds are facing the same issue.
- Improving this aspect could contribute to meaningful metrics enhancement.
- Expanding Discord's Business Capabilities:
- For Discord to expand as a productivity tool for businesses, addressing this issue is crucial.
- Many companies contemplate between Slack and Discord as productivity tools. However, the lack of UTF-8 support during file uploads on Discord can be a frustrating point leading to customer attrition.
We are aware of the tremendous effort put forth by the Discord team to enhance the service. We hope you keep in mind the existence of this issue and, though it might take time, we sincerely request you to consider implementing the proposed improvement.
wishing you all a fantastic day ahead.
