The new mobile layout is all right but it can use some improvements.
I've been messing around with the new mobile layout for some time now and it's all right. I think the largest reason why people are complaining about the new UI update is because they hate change. I'm not saying this is the perfect UI update, but there are some issues and general feedback I want to give.
My biggest issue I have is where the messages are located and how big each direct message is now. I can only see 7-8 people where as prior to this update I could've seen a lot more. If that section is more condensed, it will be easier to navigate through the app.
I don't have an issue with the swipe to reply. I do have a problem with how it replaced the members list though. I'm unable to quickly see who is active in the server so I can ask them about something. I have a Samsung S23 Ultra. That phone is big. I have to to reposition my entire hand to click the top of the channel name to see the server list. If a system like double swipe to reply and single swipe to view the members list was implemented, I believe that would be best for accessibility.
I do like the search update though. You're able to see messages that contain media, links, or files without having to go into the search bar to filter through the images or whatnot. I also like the general search bar at the top of the server's channels. This can make it much more easier to search for specific images or files especially with the layout but I believe it can be better. There should be additional filtering options like sorting by message length to fully round out the search feature.
Overall, I don't hate or even dislike this update, but the changes I talked about could make the user experience much better. There are some things like the color change to dark mode that I don't necessary like but it's minor and not a big deal. If there's an option to revert it back to the old dark mode color palette that will be fun. If not, it's not a big deal.

What arrogance. I don't hate the UI because of change. I started Discord because I was eager for change from what Skype had become.
It has made holding multiple conversations on multiple servers a giant slog. Particularly if also doing DMs. This is not intuitive it is a series of extra steps that has made the spread of conversations untenable and harder to track.
And it's not like this are ‘new functions’ other applications have had something similar so it's not new at all. But I'm at Discord specifically because I dislike those functions.
