Thread management QoL changes
Hello! I'd like to propose a few new features that I'm sure would make a good impact on Discord Threads and make them more useful and easier to handle (All of these also apply for forum posts as they are a form of thread). Here's some ideas I came up with:
-
OP pins:
Sometimes threads can spark long discussions that make it difficult to navigate through all of the available content to look at. This problem could be solved by allowing server owners to allow certain channels, people, or roles to pin messages to the thread so that newcomers can easily understand all the main points. The original post from which the thread begins is automatically pinned but can be unpinned. -
Searching threads:
Sometimes for one reason or another users need to return to previous threads, but it can be hard to find them amongst the rest in massive or old servers. I propose to solve this issue by adding a new search option dedicated to finding messages that serve as the root of a thread or post. The syntax is as follows:
threads: <boolean> -
Client-sided forum sorting:
Nowadays, we are allowed to decide whether a forum and its posts will be organized by either “Recent Activity” or “Creation Time”. But, I believe it would prove useful for users to have the option to sort these channels however they see fit, even if without admin/manager permissions. Allowing them to choose this themselves is a start, but we can also add more alternative ways of sorting posts such as
“Oldest”, which does the opposite of Creation Time.
“Most Relevant” which organizes posts prioritizing those with the most total activity in the previous twelve hours.
And “Unsorted”, which doesn't sort in any apparent order. -
Forum post formatting:
Sometimes servers use forums as a way of gathering information from the community. It happens often that the posts done in the forum vary in structure or contain too much information without use. It would be a nice feature if you as a server admin/manager could define certain parameters each post must comply with before being posted such as the minimal and maximum amount of characters a post can have, the range of embedded files it may or needs to contain, if links are allowed, etc. The option for no formatting to be needed in any or all of these fields would still be available.
