Honor Win11's System Tray Setting
On Windows 11, programs with system tray icons tend to get shoved into its overflow menu. And you can set which one you want to display rather than being hidden behind this overflow. Discord does not honor this setting after each subsequent update. After submitting a bug report about this, they claim that this behavior is intentional. But that intention also comes with repeated annoyances after each update. I prefer to keep all the system tray icons visible rather than having to pick out which one I want to see. But Discord does not allow me to keep its System Tray icon from hiding itself again after each update.
It is upsetting that every time Discord pushes out an update, the system tray that I either dragged out of its overflow or via Win11's Settings goes back to being hidden. Every. Single. Time. When I set Discord's System Tray icon to be VISIBLE, I want it VISIBLE and persistent across ALL versions and updates. This behavior needs to change. I mean…. how would YOU like it if Microsoft keeps defaulting your web browser to Microsoft Edge instead of your Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox after each Windows update? Just think about that.

That sounds incredibly frustrating. It's important for software to respect user preferences, especially regarding something as basic as visibility in the system tray. Discord should definitely prioritize fixing this issue to ensure a smoother experience for its users. It's like having your preferences ignored every time a new update rolls out—it's definitely not ideal.

I have toyed around with enough programs to know that just about every single one with a system tray icon do not move itself back into its overflow/hidden menu after an update. It is only, as far as I remember and know of, Discord that exhibit this behavior.

That's why I got here. I just wanted to mention that. It's annoying to move it on every 2nd or 3rd Windows startup.
I only got this problem with Discord too and hope it's fixable for Discord. Doesn't seem to be a Windows 11 bug, as everything else works fine.
Would be nice if you guys work on that!

Any news? This is also P**SING me off

This is likely due to Discord's program changing directories after updates which affect other preferences like whitelisting discord in other programs. After any update, Windows thinks it's a new program which defaults to the tray overflow. Discord needs to make their update keep discord.exe stay in the same directory

Btw. I also mentioned the problem happening with the Spotify App recently.
Now it's Discord AND Spotify.
I hope they will soon try to fix it.

Another update as of June 12, 2024 and still no fix for this issue. I watched as it goes through its auto-update process. And when it finished and the main window appears, I look at the systray and its overflow/hidden menu. The systray icon is back in the overflow menu. While Win11 isn't exactly the most widespread, going forward, this is going to be an issue for everyone soon enough.

New app update on June 18, 2024. The System Tray icon still reappears in Windows 11's overflow/hidden menu despite that I had it set to be visible on the SysTray, like I've been doing countless times.

App update on Aug 15, 2024. Issue still persists. If the devs are still clinging to the excuse that the behavior is intentional, then I will call this a bug/flaw. When I set an icon to be visible in the SysTray on Win11, I expect to be able to continue seeing it across version updates.

i think we can file it under “don't give a rats arse”
