Server Member Applications Tweaks
The idea is fantastic, however in practice it falls short compared to bots that can serve the same feature but better (TicketTool in our case), here are our two biggest issues and how they could be solved to be able to use this feature to its fullest and depend less on external tools like bots.
First I need to mention why we need it in first place: we focus on being a safe space for a minority, and it is a big server, which means we are constantly targeted by homophobic, transphobic, and other kinds of -phobic groups. This is where the automod tools + permissions are perfect - we can stop them from sending disturbing gifs, images and most text messages that contain profanities. We keep our mods safe and banning is quick and easy.
From what we have seen in the previews, the application process is handled through a group DM between a mod and the applicant. This completely removes all sorts of protection from the automod and permissions. Moving this feature to a new tab within the server itself not only would it make it more intuitive if you're a mod in multiple servers, it would also make use of the aforementioned tools. This also leads into our second biggest issue:
We don't have a lot of information on how the feature works so it might be irrelevant, but if the feature is handled through DMs then we wouldn't be able to keep a log/transcription of every application once its denied or approved. We would rely on the mod that handled the application to respond and make sure the information they shared there matches what they're saying once in the server. If this is moved to a tab within the server, then worst case scenario we could use a bot to save the logs.
As a last note I wanted to mention we appreciate that this feature is in the works in the first place! I think its a great starter and if these issues are handled, we would love how streamlined the verification process would be - as using bots can be confusing for both the administrator to configure and new Discord users to navigate.
Thank you for reading and we hope this helps!
