Recording Option for Voice Chat

Golden, I love this idea. It makes regular chat much richer and really puts Discord in competition with other messaging services. The ability to try to record something multiple times is way useful in comparison to regular voice chat.

I agree it's really needed, being able to deliver a long massage to someone by only using your voice, which is useful for cases where the recipient of the message is too busy to pick up a call, and the sender can't type a long message. It helps in terms of fuctionality, saves time and effort, and can be very useful to people who are probles reading and typing, making communication overall clearer.

Voice messaging is very popular on whatsapp, iphone text messaging, and telegram. The lack of this feature is causing us to hesitate to move our community over to Discord.
Due to it's popularity, I can only imagine it must be on your roadmap. Can you tell us when this feature will be released?

Agree with all the comments above. I have used many similar apps and Discord is right up there with my favorites. Adding a feature like this will just strengthen it's competitiveness in the marketplace. Our current community/server would love for this feature to be added!

Ah, I had to read through this several times to understand what feature is being asked for. My earlier comment doesn't apply.
I do see how this could be useful though, I have used audacity to record what is send to my audio card, it would be easier to just press a button instead.

Yes, it's very possible. It just depends on what library you're using, because it's ultimately up to the devs of that library to implement the ability to read the voice stream. Dig through the documentation of yours.
For future reference, the feedback system isn't for questions. I'd imagine that's why you're getting downvoted. There are plenty of great Discord servers for developers and even more Reddit threads about all kinds of bot development questions.

They don't mean recording voice MESSAGES for sending to people...They mean recording the discord voice chat itself including all the voices who talk in it. I for one am all for this since I believe it is a needed feature that should be included already. I have been in multiple discords where there's been drama in voice calls and this can be used for evidence in case someone starts harassing in voice channels. This would be an easier way to report the person. However I do believe it should be a permission setup and the voice notification for recording be on permissions as well. This way staff members or long time members can record and there be no worries of the voice notification if they dont want it.

I think the hardest part is implementing this legally. A lot of states like California has a two-party consent law. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_call_recording_laws

Wechat is already implemented this feature, in the group chat all members send voice messages, I have it opened and wechat reproduce the messages one by one... So nice, I don't have to touch each message to hear it.

I'm concerned about the legality of this. For the sake of transparency on all parties, if someone wants to record, I suggest having a dialogue box pop up asking each participant if they consent to having themselves recorded. If all say yes, the recording can proceed. But if even one says no it should stop there.
Of course, this is just my take on this. The permissions and details for this can be changed and expanded upon by staff should they decide to implement this.

You don't need other permissions. You are only recording yourself.
And then post the recorded voice you just created.

This feature only records your voice. You press record button and it uses your microphone to record your voice.
You don't need other people permission to send a voice message to them.

This is the kinda thing that's gonna have to be very well received from Discord's view-point, as recording ones voice doesn't sound like the kinda thing Discord wants.
This seems like a cool idea, but Discord needs to stay as un-sued as possible. It could be the kinda thing where all users needa accept the record button to record voice.
But again, that's lika a contract, how many people'll say, "ow I didnt click accept", once it's used against them... All things that Discord must think about...

Very useful. Just make sure we get a recording icon and sound with it, so that everyone in the chat knows that they're being recorded, and by who.

@whitevo I think you're getting it wrong, the feature is to record all the sound in a specific channel, not only your voice, and after you stop recording it lets you save the file in any folder you want in your device. It's not voice notes as you think.

This can actually be useful for moderators/admins of Discord servers. This would remove the problem of not being able to get evidence from voice chats.
A moderator can record the conversation, if not needed. They can delete it
