GameRanger and Hamachi have too little freedom to be useful. Tunngle and Evolve were also discontinued so I just thought Discord would be the best candidate to let you VLAN with friends.

  Playing with friends in a local network over the internet like in Hamachi is imo more secure than open ports on

  the own router (even if you're not an advanced user) and cheaper and easier to setup than a gaming server you can

  pay for.

  For example some extensions for the Garry's Mod Addon TTT aren't even developed to run on multiplayer servers,

  but on co-op servers.

  A new competitor to Hamachi isn't bad either.

  So +1 for a private network / VPN solution on discord.
