Do you have the server's moderation level set to require a verified phone number on their account? That will help make things more difficult for them to get around a ban like that.

I just said, Mac addresses and Hardware codes.

which are just as easily spoofable as ip addresses, i'm saying this won't change anything. downvoted lmao

You can't change Mac addresses or Hardware codes, unless you buy a freshly new Device that has never used Discord

    Not true. https://www.howtogeek.com/192173/how-and-why-to-change-your-mac-address-on-windows-linux-and-mac/

Also, it would be pointless anyway, as someone malicious could trivially edit their discord client (or use the developer console) to simply lie about it to the discord servers. Your MAC address does not go past your router.

I see this suggestion a lot, and while it has merit, there are a couple of flaws that can't really be worked around - one is that logging SSIDs/related IDs is a major privacy concern, and the second is that there are always ways to circumvent this if someone's determined to. Trading in the right to privacy for a punishment that is relatively easy to avoid does not make a permanently caught user, however well-intentioned.

hey thefutureknight. you are very much wrong. there are programs designed to change mac addresses and IP addresses so that the device cant be tracked. at times people will even changes the software built into the wifi adapter and or ethernet adapter so that anything on there will read it as such. so this would not suffice. to say the least there is no end all way to ban someone from the server without the person finding a way back in. just a small correction there as there has been a community towards modding hardware and software to fit there needs and make programs see different things. cheers!

and i guess computer engineers have been struggling with how to hand out bans for decades for no reason

Yes! Maybe for people who got banned for a minor reason it could just be with an IP, but for repeating or major rulebreakers they could recieve a hardware ban

Edit: just realized you meant server bans and not discord-wide bans. All server bans should be hardware bans, yeah

ha, nice joke. but this isn't the place for jokes. go try to sound technical somewhere else.

Hmm. Could do it via the MAC address.

Me and BlueDrake42 were discussing it when a solo raider came back twice on two accounts on the Iron Armada discord, maybe using VPN, causing BlueDrake to increase to the highest level of moderation security (two factor auth.). This maybe requires higher levels of moderation and perhaps a ban on VPNs entirely.

Device ban can be easily bypassed like an IP ban.. Fake DeviceID, VMs, Browser Profiles...

You can change a mac-adress; it's only temporarily though. It's called mac-spoofing. It'll remain spoofed until restart / reboot, but yea. even a mac-ban is avoidable. Though, not permanently.

Well, here is a little lesson in trickery, do you want to be a hacker number one? First lesson go to your wifi settings and switch this one, then discord and op have no clue who you are.

also if discord were to ban all public vpns they can't ban vpns entirely. and if they did that then chinese-americans in commie china cant use discord and they dont want to leave them out.
