Spellcheck on linux
This is a feature that has been missing for a while on Linux and i have just looked using the developer tools on windows and i see not platform specific needs that prevents it being on Linux, especially since you are using the hunspell dictionary in JS, and also exists on macosx.
My question is, is this functionality in the works for the linux client, and if not, Give me technical reasons why

Sadly, the only update is that there is no update. I submitted a support ticket this month in an effort to highlight that this feedback thread still exists. Their "solution" was to recommend I upvote the aforementioned feedback thread, which I had already done…

Please add spell check support for the Linux client.
And for the guy that said "Literally" you may also have to add a crutch word check.

Has there been any progress on this?
The comments say it's easy to implement, but it still hasn't been completed.
Is Discord completely ignoring such requests?
9 -
No progress that i've seen.
As there are MANY opensource options. Its already in there just not used "Apparently the Discord node-spellchecker already supports Linux. It says in the README.md that Linux and Windows 7 rely on Hunspell which is also used in programs like LibreOffice and Mozilla Firefox that support Linux. " - https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360036344171/comments/360007566472
And yes they are ignoring it!11 -
It sure seems they give not 1 shit about us GNU/Linux users.

I am really surprised at how long this thread has been going. More and more people are making the move to Linux so the pressure has to be mounting to implement it.
Have an upvote and follow!

It's really a shame to see such a simple feature not go into the Linux release, even when it would be so simple to fix it. It would take no effort at all. It would seem that Discord is so ashamed of Linux, they don't even put it in the footer of their site! Look below, and you'll see no option for the desktop Linux platform.

Also ned spelcheking here.
WHYYYY. Stop punishing Users because Windows issnt usable anymore! :-(

So we got the 0.0.10 update, still shipping a discord_spellcheck module with the hunspell dictionaries removed, although oddly it seems like the spell check library in use doesnt check for a system path

Okay, one week till I cancel Nitro! I don't see why I would give these people anymore money, since they obviously don't give two flying phux about us. Oops, was that a spelling error?

@Ioan(mynd)²
So is there a way to manually put the hunspell dictionaries back into it? And/or add a system path to the spell check library?Honestly if there's a way to "easily" fix this on our own, even temporarily, I'm all for supporting it because Discord clearly isn't going to enable this anytime soon.

Perhaps Microsoft Teams is the way to go...
I’m going to look at this for my real time communique. Slack has failed me, and now Discord is failing me.
I bet Microsoft ❤️ Linux unlike Discord4 -
Good thought, I will check into same!

@Astral Nomad
Ive had a try by changing the spellcheck libary to look in the shared dictionary folder, but that hasnt worked. I dont want to mess much further than the 3rd party libaries

There is always the web client (which renders perfectly and has spellcheck). Maybe Discord should make a proper PWA instead of this electron based app?

@Ioan(mynd)²
Ugh. Well, it was worth a try.
If anyone does find any leads on how to implement it, hopefully we can work towards it together.
@Gordon
Unfortunately that's probably what most users decide to use when they're dissatisfied with the Linux client version, and that's fine. However, the simple fact that the Mac, Windows, Android and iOS versions all have spellcheck but the Linux client is left in the corner to be forgotten makes me frustrated more than willing to switch to the browser version. It's a simple feature to implement but they don't care enough about Linux users to put it in the code.

I am unhappy to report that the lack of spell check is one of the low-lights of my necessary switch to Linux. It would be unwise to dishonor our penguin overlords by taking them seriously before they take over the desktop platform.
Honestly, though, I'm just here to make some more noise for Linux Spellcheck.7 -
Also, I'm upvoting.

I love seeing all the activity this issue has been generating. Hopefully the Discord devs will realize this would be an easy win for them.
8 -
Really cannot understand why this is any harder than supporting real time code block rendering...
7 -
This disregard for a simple standard implementation is unacceptable.
ADD SPELL CHECK!8 -
Okay cancelled nitro... won't do any good, but couldn't keep giving money to people that demonstrate they don't give a hoot.
8 -
Still not fixed.
9 -
Still not signing up as a Nitro subscription until this and another chromium bug is fixed (Some unicode character rendering)
8 -
Well, I guess when it comes to Linux, we could say, Discord works on Valve time.
4 -
Wow, really this is still a problem? Why am I even paying these people money? Undeserved.
7 -
The people want spell check for discord for Linux please!!!!!
6 -
Please!
3 -
Spellcheck isn't the only thing I'm still waiting on…
4 -
Yeah I hope they add a spell checker to Linux soon. Its really annoying to type without it.
