Not being able to send friend requests

Something is wrong i cant send friend requests....i go into someone's profile (specifically my girlfriend's) and it says check spelling and wont let me re-friend her....ive now lost all contact with her does anybody know why this is happening?....is it only happening to me? Was i blocked?? Im so confused
