Find out what server is causing notifications
The notification sound can become very annoying when you can't track down what server is causing the notifications. Some servers I have all messages notify me in the event of an emergency (moderator, for example) and some others I just like to be updated when my friends are having a conversation, or talking about playing a game.
Maybe a drop-down menu in the settings or the home screen to jump to channels/servers that have "all messages" notifications turned on would be helpful, to narrow down who is talking where.
It'd be very helpful for people like me who are involved in 20+ servers.

People!
Stop crying and check the `"inbox" button, (top right)` as suggested by Techo.

The "Inbox" button does not show where the notifications are coming from. When I click it, the first entry shows random conversations from last month. The next entry is also irrelevant. The list of conversations in Inbox is VERY long and all irrelevant to the notifications I'm currently receiving. I'm getting a notification every 5 seconds and have no idea where its coming from. I keep trying to make peace with Discord but the UX is terrible.

I'd also love it if there was indication of unseen activity, e.g. a dot next to the icon for a server with activity, as Slack does. The dot goes red for a direct message or mention. Does anyone know if there's a plugin to do that? I limit the number of Discord servers i'm in because i'm not into clicking through them all to look for activity when this problem was solved in IRC clients more than 20 years ago.

Don't they already have this? I can look at my phone right now and see notification icons next to servers with unread messages, and I'm pretty sure they have that on PC too. It's been like this for pretty much as long as I've used Discord, what are y'all talking about? Here's an example of a dot next to the server icon showing activity, exactly like barefootliam mentioned, and you get a red symbol if there's a direct mention

and the inbox feature shows a list of unread messages I have, starting with the most recent. I can't see any problems with it. Also, I don't know why the image got posted twice

@UberTheSpaghet i don't get the white dots. I do get the red dots. I would like to have the white dots :)
(Desktop on Linux).
I do use the inbox to find mentions (Jump to...).

Yeah pretty nuts this post was made 2 years ago and nothings been done. Maybe the devs dont have a way to track down their notifications for the forums too 🤦♂️

Posting in September 2021 to say that this is still an issue; hearing a notification sound with no indication for which of the ~100 servers sent it is not only useless, it is worse than useless, for fairly obvious reasons, and actually drives me to either close Discord when I'm not actively using it, or just indiscriminately mute every server I'm on.

Please fix this.

How has this not been fixed???

Oh no..... It is so old!
No hope for this then?! :(

PLEASE FIX THIS @DISCORD

How is this STILL not implemented? It's been years and has plenty of people here who want it. There are tens of thousands of people who are driven nuts by this every day and only a small percentage of them actually bother to google it, a small percentage of them actually land on this page, and a small percentage of then bother to log in and upvote. It forces me to waste ten minutes of my time searching servers and channels, or to simply force close discord entirely.

As a neuro-atypical individual, the indiscriminate randomization drives me mad. Maybe all their devs are neuro-typical and don't understand how much this impacts a subset of their userbase. Crazy that something which actively drives the population away from the app would be allowed to persist.

I've used discord for about a year. I always figured there was a way to tell what server made the notification chime, I just didn't know how.
A discord server I'm in just went bonkers with notifications BUT I COULDN'T TELL WHICH (I'm in like 20). I can't BELIEVE there's no way to tell. I can't believe I went this long putting up with this. The notifications are outrageously broken, I can't believe it still exists in this form.

Waiting for this feature as well...

Argh, this is so frustrating! How is there still not a solution?

Crazy, today received at the login 40 ping sounds, no way to tell from where they came from... yes engagement, but very messy.
While writing here hearing another 60 ping sounds... no way to understand why from where.2 -
I can't believe this is real, why people are using Discord then and no other better app? I'm new to this, but it's a nightmare to know who is sending messages, especially since each server has different channels and so on...what a mess...I thought I was doing something wrong but it's just Discord...

Just getting here after thinking 'hearing these notifications and not being able to find the 'notifications list' has to be my fault'... And being blown totally away that a zillion-dollar social media agency apparently cares F-all if people want a list of notifications. Wow. What totally horrible, awful 'service'.

Furthermore, if you're really fast (you have to be basically waiting and ready for the Windows popup) and click on the brief notification window, it *doesn't take you to the actual post or message*, just the channel of the server that triggered it. Ridiculous.
OH. And if you try to click the three dots on the notification to silence notifications, the popup closes before you can make a selection. That is some awesome user experience there, Discord.

raised 3 years ago and this isn't a thing JUST ADD IT

The icon displayed is your INBOX. It is located in the upper right hand corner of the discord page.
Just click on that, and you'll find the latest unread messages.
If you have muted certain chats, tabs, servers... your search will be a short one.
Not the ideal solution, but it is really helpful.-2 -
The inbox only works for @ messages, not channels that might be unmuted for any number of reasons.

This is bugging me like crazy having the damn red dot on my discord icon in the right bottom corner and I cant find where it is coming from.

If the flashing taskbar is your issue then plz read.
Click the gear icon next to your name.
Scroll Down to "notifications"
Turn off "Enable taskbar flashing" .0 -
I've found a workaround : install BetterDiscord and the InAppNotifications plugin. Then you will have a toater notification in the Discord window for each sound notification and find easily from which server the sound notification comes.

This isn't about the Notification Icon, or the white circle to show new messages. This is about hearing the notification sound and not having a way to know what server it's coming from. Inbox does not help.

Currently muting every server trying to find what is constantly creating the message notification noise. Starting to think it's just a bug and there are no messages.

HOW HAS IT BEEN CLOSE TO 5 WHOLE CALENDARISTIC YEARS AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE OR NO ONE GIVES A CRAP ABOUT IT.
LIKE REALLY ONE OF THE MOST BASIC FEATURES OF NOTIFICATIONS IS TO ALSO TELL YOU WHAT YOU ARE MISSING. SO I CAN BE AWARE OF WHERE THE MESSAGES IS COMING FROM

Searched for how to do this, came across this thread. This has been a complaint since 2019???
Come on……
