Change Discord installation folder
We are unable to change Discord installation folder.
Being able to do so is useful in case of a program using all the HDD resources, whereas we have a SSD

Bump. You can do this easily if you know how to use command prompt as an administrator. You have to create a symbolic link after you move the discord folder located in: C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Discord to A:\ExampleDiscordDirectory. Itll create a new folder in the local appdata folder (make sure original is not there anymore and moved) and discord will automatically run off that drive you linked that path to. This is similar in the solution Max offers but it creates a symbolic link rather than a junction, which is more optimal for a program folder. See this chart. Symbolic links have more functionality, while junctions almost seem to be a legacy feature because of the limitations they have.
mklink /D "C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Discord" "A:\ExampleDiscordDirectory"
TLDR: use this command in CMD (elevated) to repoint discord program directory after it is moved, remember to use quotes for directories with spaces:
mklink /D Link Target
I guess I will repeat this a second time?

"I guess I will repeat this a second time?"
Only if you didn't listen the first time.. Some people know how but shouldn't have to. Hence the point..

If I didn't listen the first time I would be nodding in agreement with you. People shouldn't have to do something to modify a free program? Just like people shouldn't be forced to update their CPUs to use Windows 11 yet if you want to use that product that's what you have to do. Perhaps if you or anyone else having trouble with this were competent enough to type a few (actually, one I think?) commands in command prompt or PowerShell this issue would be resolved for you. Just like the other people who have managed to put the five minutes in to do the work themselves.
The discord developers are evidently happy with the way their system works - discord automatically updates without needing elevated permissions hence its install path being in the user's app data. Microsoft Teams works in the very same manner - and corporate customers pay to use this service.
If this bothers you I'd suggest to get off your behind and type in a single command. The Discord devs aren't going to change the core functionality of their program for you. Hence why you're bumping a three year old thread. This just proves that this isn't even close to being on the company's priority list or even the userbase's priority list. You're literally beating a dead horse on a thread that was open when Covid didn't exist. I'd suggest starting a new thread (so we have one in at least this decade) and see how the devs respond. I am betting what I said will still be the case - they won't change the program for you.

GFY you pompous ass. See if my response changes.

Post the new thread and see what responses you get lol. I am sure Jason Citron will personally respond to you assuring you that this change will be immediately implemented!

Lol. I'm rather enjoying fanboy responses like yours. Thanks for the downvote. I'm sure it's easy from your point of view.. down there, with your nose adjacent to the dev's ass..

I am not a Discord fanboy. I prefer Microsoft Teams to be honest. It is far better optimized.
It isn't a point of view, they're just not going to implement this change for you just because you're lazy. This is a statement of fact, not a point of view. Come back in 3 years and tell me how far you have come in making progress in pushing for this change. Again, where's the new thread? This is evidently REALLY important to you.

One could say, an oversight of allowing a choice of installation location is lazy.. point in fact smartass. Regardless, progress was made. Uninstalled and done. My previous post still stands.

,_,) I need this feature *disappointed noises*

I understand how frustrating it can be when you're unable to change the installation folder of a program like Discord. Unfortunately, I don't have a direct solution to your problem. However, you might want to consider contacting the support team of Discord for further assistance. Alternatively, if you need any help with Installation Chester, let me know and I'll try my best to provide you with the necessary information.

Me I love it… programmers that install executables in AppData… they know they shouldn't… but they do it anyway. Definition of Moron.
Just one off the web (as many people do talk about why the efff Discord installs in AppData) :
As for why Discord installs to AppData...It's because we use the Squirrel Installer, it doesn't offer much customization, we're working on our own custom installer.
Note: Currently it is not possible to change Discord's default installation location, despite being a fairly popular request.
Then you do not use moronic installers!
MLink to the rescue.1 -
To begin, initiate a right-click on the Discord icon, and opt for the option to reveal the directory of the open folder. The designated official installation path is typically located at C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Discord. Proceed by copying the entire Discord folder to your desired relocation destination.capcuttemplatess.in site
Next, delve into the folder labeled "Discord\app-1.0.9002" and locate the Discord.exe file. Execute a right-click on Discord.exe, opt to send it as a desktop shortcut. Following this, perform another right-click on the shortcut now present on your desktop and proceed to rename it as "discord.
