Customize/disable DM auto close.
Apparently, DMs auto close after a few months and if you, like me, need to keep over 100 open at once. I have confirmation from support that it is a thing.
The fact that DMs auto close has actually become an extreme annoyance and hindrance to me so I would like to be able to turn it off.

I would agree but wold add that the issues with DM organization is partly to blame, if you could more easily subdivide it I don't see why we can't have more than 100 or so open. Maybe it takes a lot of data to do so, but what about at least client side saving the fact you had one?
I'm not sure how the specifics work, but I think it's a bad thing they close without warning as well. There at least needs to be some way to know how many you have open and if opening anew one does anything, much like having 100 or so servers and you find out you cant join one. that t least tells us we have to close a defunct one.
Auto closing is just intrusive though. Specially since some people need old contacts.
I for example have noticed some that are WAAAAAAAAAY more than a few months old, and needed to get back into contact with them, and others, I have had issues with people leaving, but coming back later. opportunities like this would be impossible.
I also have a few that are way older than a couple months, and are still around, do I need to worry these will suddenly go away without warning? Should I find a way to back them all up? what if I need to reconnect with this person but don't know their new name? My only hope is a dm open from them to give me a chance to friend.
personally, I think there should be usernames that cant be changed like twitter, and display names that can, and that we shouldn't have the ability to put weird symbols in our names, or at least need to be able to put them in our friend and search tabs.
I think also that we should have a way to open them again even if they are closed to avoid the list issue, or if its not data related for you guys, just give is a way to organize them and "hide" them without closing. it only makes sense.1 -
I want to bump this even though its been 3 years because I would love to see this implimented. Mainly stopping auto-hiding DMs (maybe it comes with a warning if it reaches a certain threshold so you can close it yourself?), and the secondary would be grouping DMs like you can channels.

I message more than 100 people a week. i cant keep searching my friends list to try to find those who've fallen off… this is ridiculous. if there's a reason why this happens then there is a better solution too. just have those dms go dormant and only display the name… store it locally… have a setting or option or another screen so i can see what dms are closing…
