Scaling Message Notification

The half-circle beside a guild(server) or channel is a great way to alert the paranoid that their game of social-whack-a-mole is not yet complete, but for those of us moderating a server (or several servers) it would be nice if that indicator showed us a little more.

What I'd like is a measurement of intensity in the interface to show how many comments are waiting to be viewed in each channel/guild(server).

Maybe with color, maybe have the indicator grow, or maybe have it flash each time a message is posted. Or maybe give an option to select between several such indicators. Maybe something like the red notification counter, but in a more soothing blue?
