Discord Screen sharing has some major issues
I don't normally give feedback on a product but I kind of care about discord and I'd like to see able to see it as the best it can be. I got to major gripes with Discord one that has to do with mobile only and one for both.
Discord screen share has come a long way since the beginning when it was launched even before it was officially launch there was that workaround you could do, but in recent months problems have arose whether it be audio not being captured (this a problem that ever friend of mine has been having including me) or in my seemly my case only a frozen screen. Another problem is screen share just randomly turning its self off whether it be with the new Go live feature or private call screen sharing. Now I know my use case for Screen sharing is a niche and not a lot of people aren't doing this but when trying to capture software like Elgato Game Capture or OBS Studio and especially StreamLabs OBS, problems that occur are a Black screen, No Audio, or even sometimes a hard lock of my computer which requires a restart of the system to fix (the last one I'm not blaming discord instead OBS Studio and how it reacts to Discord).
I'm just gonna list some problem with each of theses programs and how they react to Discord vs how they react to Discord now keep in mind I've tried every troubleshooting step in the book going as far to reinstall windows and go to unreleased branches of Discord
- Elgato Game Capture HD
- A Black Screen, when starting screen share the screen with show for 2 to 5 seconds then go to a black screen there hasn't seemed to be a fix for this other then hoping that turning off "Use our latest technology to capture your screen" under "Voice & Video" in the Settings.
- No Audio, on top of the no screen issue while I will hear Audio no one else can in Discord this can happen in combination with the Black Screen and sometimes with out it.
- OBS Studio
- Locking up of Windows when enabling screen share in discord. I have no explanation for this other then I have no clue why its hard locks Windows.
- Popping/cutting out Audio, this one you'd have to hear to understand what I mean. So with the Go Live update it seems to have fixed this but only when Going live in a Discord server, If I try to do the work around or share screens in a private call the Audio will just pop/cut out very quickly as if someone is muting and muting the audio.
- Turning off Screen share when clicking on another window, When I stream OBS to Discord I use the projection mode in OBS to get a full screen for my viewers in discord but if I want to adjust the audio it will turn off the screen share. While a couple updates ago I never had this problem and it worked fine.
- Streamlabs OBS
- No audio, while I am able to get OBS Studio audio to work just fine. Streamlabs refuses to put any audio through Discord screen share. I have the monitoring device set to my desktop audio and thats how its set up for OBS Studio so on paper it should work. I don't know if this a problem with Streamlabs OBS or Discord just not working properly
These are issues that don't have to do with my niche use case. Desktop Streaming over the past month has just been freezing on start up sometimes it will load one frame of my screen other times it will just load forever, the same problem happens when going for the window section option. Google chrome and other programs not sharing Audio at all even though they use to just fine. This all seemed to start happening when the Go Live feature was added.
Somethings I'd like to see in Discord though is a the volume slider feature added to private calls cause I have friend with hearing impairment and sometimes its hard for them to watch a video with the rest of us without us blowing out our ear drums having a volume slider like in Go Live would fix this.
Another thing I'd like to see is having the option to choose what to share like in private call when Going live. because of this option me and my friend still use the work around to be able to share a YouTube video or even have our webcams on while chilling in the server.
Thanks for reading my rant. I hope some of theses issues can be fixed.

Hey can I please ask you how to get OBS Studio output through discord app sharing? My friend tried to stream games on Switch to me privately. We bought a graphics capture card and had OBS Studio connected with the card as input. But when he shared OBS with me, I cannot hear any game sound. Do you know how to fix this? I looked everywhere for hours and cannot find a solution. Thank you so much!!

Okay, I'll add to this one. I too have noticed that the screen share stops. I am sharing my screen/app in a chat with a friend. We are watching YouTube together. I have two screens. Guess what I want to do? Something else, while we are watching YouTube. That was how I discovered that if you move the focus away from the thing you are trying to share, your friend can no longer see it. Just a black screen. If I return the focus to the object, they can see it again. Additionally, I noticed today that if I have Discord on one screen and am doing something else on another, the animation for my friend typing freezes - just stops moving. If I return the focus to Discord, it starts moving again. Discord, if you have introduced a condition on the streaming, you might want to have another look at it with this information in mind. Your fan base contains many people who are multitaskers and will need streaming to continue regardless of where the focus is.

Better compatibility with the browser version (no download/in-browser) for all browsers currently in use would be the more likely approach to eliminating issues / increasing features on any platform while minimizing coding needed. Right now, on the Xbox (Xbox Edge Browser), the in-browser client fails to load the website properly. This causes the website to just spin the loading icon forever... Wished this would get fixed. UWP would the BEST way to include it on Xbox - While we are talking about compatibility and inclusion to Discord across platforms.
