Option to turn off animated profile pictures for users who have epilepsy
As someone who has photosensitive epilepsy, I face the risk of having a seizure when browsing profile pictures (the profile pictures that are animated)and I’m sure many others who have epilepsy face a similar problem. I’d like to see an option to turn off animated profile pictures completely or until we decide to enable it again. There’s the option to turn off animated emojis and GIFs in public chats and dms, so I’d like to see this become available to us users who have epilepsy

Agreed, I wish there was a way to disable the animations personally in settings

This is a wonderful idea, I hope to see something like this in the future.

I agree. This would be helpful to those users that needs them off for that reason.

This is a very imperative problem that is actually persistent with epileptic people. Hearing of a few epileptic deaths, it’s very concerning. I totally agree with this suggestion!

I 100% agree.

I 100% agree. This is an issue that must be addressed for the safety of those who need it. I don't have PSE, but I get extremely motion sick based off of some of the moving animated profile pictures. I'm with everyone on this being an important issue that must be addressed. We're all a community, and that's what Discord is. PSE is a serious issue, and we must find a way to help those, as we would want others to help us.
If there is anything I can do to help, I can help with writing letters to the main board of Discord, as I would like to do anything to help. Thanks.2 -
I completely agree to this. I may not have PSE, but I do get a tiny bit dizzy when looking at animations like this. I feel like Discord should have a button to stop the animations.

I got banned from the official bug testing server for this, and a feature like this could have made it a lot easier on why I shouldn't be banned.

We're 3 years later and still no response from Discord on this. Benefit of the doubt says they're either too busy or just haven't announced they're working on this feature … or maybe accessibility isn't a priority?
And yes, I'm aware of the “Reduce motion” and “Autoplay GIFs” settings. Neither of these outright disable animations - animated profile backgrounds and photos still play if you hover your mouse over them.
