Discord for Windows 10 ARM64

As part of the Electron 7.0.0 update, ARM64 support was added to Electron. Seeing as Windows 10 ARM64 computers have started to roll out, it may be useful to create an ARM64 build of Discord for it. In the mean time, the normal client does work, since Windows 10 ARM can run x86 32bit apps like Discord's normal client. Unfortunately, the performance is really slow as it has to run through a translation layer.

    agreed, I really hope more companies will adopt ARM. The benefits of viable arm pcs are great. More competition to intel and amd is always a good thing.

    +1 not just to this, but also to ARM64 builds of the Linux client. You know, for the sake of all the enthusiasts out there who I just know are already drooling at the chance to try and get Linux running properly on the Pro X and similar "always connected" PCs.

    The experience on the Pro X leaves a lot to be desired, hopefully this happens soon.

    Has there been any movement on this? It would indeed be pretty great if Discord could support Windows on ARM with their Desktop App. Electron supports it nowadays so why not!

    I just bought a surface pro x and would love a native arm64 compile of discord to run on it. The desktop app for x86 has some major lag, not to mention the battery drain. And the website currently has a glitch for me where anytime I press backspace on some text I've written, the cursor jumps to the beginning of whatever I've written. Incredibly frustrating.

    The fact that the app isn't 64 bit yet and still doesn't have a native ARM version is really puzzling to me. Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS all have 64 bit versions of the Discord app and yet there is none for Windows.

    With Microsoft pushing Windows on ARM by releasing Windows on ARM devkits (Project Volterra), now seems like the perfect opportunity to create a native ARM64 build of Discord!

    I know for a fact that Electron can already be built for ARM64, so the main work would be updating Discord's native node modules to support the architecture.

    i have a thinkpad X13s here with windows on ARM64, and I am disappointed to see that has changed so far. The thread exists for 4 years now.

    Isn't the point of your web based client that it is easy to deploy to anything? C'mon, you can do it.

     

    While you're at it, I think you should also think of a Microsoft Store app, one that not just downloads the normal electron app with squirrel updater to the users folder, instead a true Windows app that is serviced and updated by the store.

    With the recent news that AMD and Nvidia are entering the market to create ARM64 CPUs for Windows PCs (https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-and-nvidia-to-develop-arm-cpus-for-client-pcs-report), it is just the matter of time for these devices to get mainstream. I think Discord wants to stay on the top of this and provide a good user experience by default for people using those new devices.

    Copilot+ ARM Windows PCs are shipping now, better get the ARM build ready soon. There's no excuse at this point anymore :)

    unrequited it's showing on there because it can run under emulation, but there is no native ARM build yet. Bumping this thread yet again because Electron has had native ARM support for quite some time.

    Any update on progress here? The website is significantly faster than the local app, which is really sad. It takes ~5s to switch channels on a brand new arm64 windows laptop with snapdragon elite x chip.

    Hi, Eric. 

    Use the application called Armcord. It's a wrapper for the webapp that's native, and will make your Discord experience dramatically faster. I use it on my SPX SQ1 all the time.  The Discord x86 client is unusably slow.  Armcord also let's you skin Discord. It's a huge improvement.
