what i think about the new ui changes

• the ping highlight is gross
• the color of highlighted messages looks extremely jarring, especially for direct discord screenshots
• the quick emote context menu is massive and covers too much above it. otherwise, the concept of it isnt actually that bad
• the unread message marker looks fine, but the fact that avatars, names, and dates arent repeated makes it look really bad
• the message spacing is really, really bad. this isnt a college essay and mla formatting is not required

in short, most of the changes are alright, but either badly executed or came with an ugly downside

  The changes would be fine if they were optional. Forcing everybody to use them and not giving us the ability to switch them off or even telling us that the changes were made is just bad.

  The emote menu thingamajig would actually be a good idea if it was sorta like a popout, you move your mouse over it and it opens, but the way it's made is just distracting.
