[SUGGESTION] Modify VC Balance
As someone who pays particular attention to audio and loves recording games with discord voice chats included in the recording/stream, I have but one modification I would like to suggest for some of the advanced individuals looking to improve the quality of their voice chat groups/recordings/streams.
When in voice chat and multiple people like to speak, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish what is being said when multiple people speak at the same time. This is in part due to the latency that is experienced between people in the chat so sometimes people may speak up at the same time; other times you may get someone who is trying to speak over someone else for a particular reason. In all of these cases, I believe that there is a solution to this problem which will enable you to hear each individual more clearly regardless of when they speak.
Stereo field balancing (left and right) is designed to give a more natural experience as it helps mimic the experience of positioning in perspective as in real life. Adding balancing to individuals in voice chat to utilize the stereo field of our common headphones and earbuds would greatly increase the quality of our voice chats no matter what sound device you are using. This could be done in one of two ways.
1. The system can be managed manually, similar to how manual volume works already for each individual, just add another slider so someone can manage their stereo balance manually. This method is easier to implement but for the more advanced individuals.
2. The second method can be used by everyone and increase the quality of VCs for all by automatically managing the balance as more individuals speak. The system can take the mono audio of someone in VC and keep the stereo balanced until someone else speaks up. Once there is an additional voice, the system automatically shifts the balance equally apart.
For example, we will refer to individual voices as "V" proceeded by a number. "Balance" will be described as being a percentile leaning either Right (R) or Left (L) and Center (C) will be 0% on both scales as it leans in neither direction.
When V1 and V2 are speaking at the same time, there are two people and the system will balance it accordingly to make it so that there is an even space between each person. V1 will be leaning 33%L and V2 33%L. This ensures that there is 66% space between V1 and V2 while also being ~66% from hard 100% either R or L. If there is a 3rd person then V3 will be Center and v1 will move to 50%L and V2 will move to 50%R.
The space between individuals can be calculated with the following formula.
There are 200 points in the spectrum. Total people talking will be represented by "T"
200/(T+1)
I have tested this out in a DAW to see if there is a noticeable difference or if this method actually works in contrast to mono sound currently used by discord, it truly helps. I've uploaded the example I created to YouTube here --> https://youtu.be/sMyE8m9ruW4
If you have any questions, please contact me. I would love for this to be implemented.
