I'm seeing a lot of unnecessary vitriol, but this change to the mobile UI really is quite strange and user unfriendly. One of Discord's biggest appeals was that the UI was simple, intuitive, and most importantly identical across all platforms. Everything about the UI was perfectly suited for mobile, and translated well to the PC and webapp. The recent changes to the mobile version of the app, hide many things that used to be accessible simply from the apps home screen. Confusingly app settings, and user online status have all been shoved onto one screen and one button when previously you could change your status from the home screen, and settings had a very clear gear icon allowing you to access it from the home screen as well. The new button to get to the home screen also seems wholly unnecessary since pressing the menu Burger button when in any chat automatically brings you back to your chat list anyway. Having the home button at the top of your chat list was intuitive and extremely noticeable just like it is on PC. I also don't find that the new friends list and mentions buttons do anything to improve my experience. Friends used to be a clearly labelled word at the top of the previous UI, and mentions function similarly while still also being at the top of the screen. Finally in my biggest complaint is that putting all these menus at the bottom of the screen makes it very easy to accidentally leave the app entirely. Pretty much all touch screen phones have there basic controls on the bottom of the screen so it is very easy to accidentally push the home button where the back button, if you have large fingers or just have a very small screen. I truly hope we'll see a change back to a more similar UI, because I truly believe one of Discord strengths was that you didn't have to completely relearn the UI when switching to another platform.
