DO NOT change the naming System. Here are some solutions.

Problems with the new naming system:
No one can find a new unique name. Unique Usernames become more scarce.
Example: @Gamer#1234 now has to call themselves "@G4m3r69" cause "@Gamer69" "@G4m3r" and "@Gamer" were already taken.

If Users can't find the person in question: Make users searchable OR
Make usernames require Alphanumeric but DO NOT remove the tag.
Alphanumeric is certainly fine. Especially given the example you shown in the update.

Microsoft already went through this problem a few years ago and ADDED tags because simply "finding a unique name" proved too troublesome for the user. You know how many xxMasterxx's there are on Xbox? They added the tags so people could get proper names for their accounts. Especially when you have a platform that's 7 years old this problems now compounds on itself the older the platform becomes. Bots will now start claiming names before users can even get to them as well.

Impersonation is also an issue as previous accounts are in a free for all to claim the proper nickname. It now becomes an even greater an issue because people can steal certain names like "@Discord" "@Google" "@Twitter" etc. Consider you are a famous artist and now someone has stolen your username and you now have to name yourself "@DiscordOfficial", but oops that was taken too, now it's "@DiscordOfficial2" which now makes it seem like you are the impersonator.

Privacy is now weakened. The tag (since you cannot search it) provides a barrier for accounts to be searched and can be changed if needed. Now when everyone knows there's an account called "@Discord" anyone can send it a friend request.

I mean this with the most respect cause I love this platform- but from the bottom of my heart this change is absolute garbage and needs to be revised.

A simple solution is to make usernames require Alphanumeric characters, but DO NOT remove the tag.

  +1, couldn't have put it better myself. This is such a MASSIVE security issue, especially since it has to be changed from an older system rather than starting out this way.
