The new type on the logo is appalling.

The font is visually less appealing than the orignal all caps logo. The roundness and title case of the new logo makes discord look like a children’s app. The new logo vector and colour is fine to me, but that type... atrocious. In title case, the logo is significantly less legible. The tracking of the type is too close and the case makes the logo disharmonious and unorganised. Specially the ‘i’ which breaks the linearity of the text. The weird roundness of the type clashes with the straight points especially on the ‘I’. The previous font had character and the hard slashes quite literally connotes the idea of the word discord itself. The all caps made the branding much stronger and fit the use of the app. This new type seems like it’s following a design trend without actually understanding the principal of branding and typography. Minimalism isn’t really the problem, as many people think it is, bad branding and typography is the real issue here.

I miss the angular letters. You know they had roots in Hebrew? Real nice cultural touch that signified that jewish folks were welcome and to be protected.

Fun fact: If you go into inspect in some areas with the typeface, there's a CSS attribute squishing the text 5% vertically.

Yes, this means the font in the logo is a stretched version of the typeface. The old logo was clean, minimal, and easy to draw if you wanted to. The new one just looks like a bug caused it to stretch out.
