Thread tooltip on mouseover

In a server I frequent, there is a thread in the general chat channel that I replied to 5 days ago. Today I moused over the name of the channel to click on it and a tooltip appeared listing that thread. I was excited to read the new reply, but when I opened it, my response was the last one.

I mentioned this in the server and they told me that's just how thread tooltips function - one appears to list all the recent threads no matter if there are new replies or not. I really dislike this and I think it's overkill. There's no reason to alert me to a thread I already saw and replied to if there's nothing new to read in it. It's also redundant since you can click the hashtag at the top of the channel to see all the threads.
