Add "Channel PM" feature to promote collaboration & transparency in teams/clans
BACKGROUND
Between many staff team members in a particular discord (for communities or organisations), a lot of conversation takes place in PM. As a result of this, transparency and searchability of collaboration/discussion takes a blow.
Contrary to what you may believe, the main cause of this is not that those team members believe what they have to say is more for the eyes of/relevant to their conversation partner only. Rather, it is because they experience a more pro-active and reactive conversation in PM, for the simple reason that it notifies the other person of a new message, as well as it pops out a clear "1" unread chat bubble in a place that's most intuitive to often be checked, namely, the "PM row" at top left of Discord. The experience from discussing everything in shared staff team channels will include a more profound lack of reactivity, no one taking initiative/charge, things (often very important ones, that are being slacked on) because those that have access to it are less intensively engaged than if it were a PM, as the latter has a constant attention loop due to the aformentioned differences in perception; it feels more like a natural conversation.
This bottleneck is a result of human nature and psychology. However, when people that enjoy a more engaging conversation where the other party responds more often and leaves less things unanswered, notice they can get exactly that by using PM's (for which they proceed to pick the most relevant person from their team, with whom it can yield results to talk), they will usually discuss more things between 2 eyes, or between a subgroup of the team in a group PM; this is a bummer as mentioned at the beginning, it restricts transparency and everyone in that team's ability to easily look up what has been done and discussed, as it would need to be indexed on the main Discord server and can be scrolled back on.
My proposal (SUGGESTION)
Add a new feature that lets Discord servers create a "Channel PM", that mirrors the channel's content (both pre-existing and new) as a fully synced copy/reflection, and adds its content to the PM tab corner on the left, for all of those members that have access to the channel through their roles. These users can choose to write in the original channel, or in the PM; in both cases their messages will be forwarded to both the channel and mirrored "Channel PM".
All members with channel access will appear in the "Channel PM" list in the same or a similar way as it's displayed in group PM's, or in the way that a channel's right side online members-list is displayed.
The "Channel PM", when hovered over by one of its participants within the Discord client, or when its properties are opened, will list the Discord server and channel it stems from (is mirrored to).
Additionally, the team to design this feature if accepted can decide whether or not members with channel access have to opt-in to this "Channel PM" before it begins appearing in their client, or that it's handled simply by the user's ability to "Mute" or "Hide" it if they don't wish to engage in that way. If it's done in the latter way, participation in a feature that stimulates team cooperation is encouraged, as it'll be enabled by default.
FINAL WORDS
This feature can make Discord even more organisation/(open-source)project friendly, as well as that it can be used by gaming guilds/so-called "clans" that take their game serious enough to desire being in touch with their fellow clan members in the most reactive and efficient way possible; but without neccesarily being confined to a traditional PM, and still be able to reap the aforementioned benefits.
If a conversation space is one that implements all that a Discord server has to offer, like roles, tight membership control, there are obviously also the benefits of being able to do everything on the main Discord server, and not having any 'leakage' to PM's between users. As well that a traditional Discord group PM is potentially of a more transient nature, its creator often deletes it or people leave it more on a whim than they would a Discord server, therefore not only will searchable content be scattered and non-transparent for those in the main Discord server of where its participants originate, but may also not be reliably stored.
