I've been starting to screen-shot the messages that i want to move then posting the screen shot of the moved message where I'm moving it then deleteing the old message. It looks terrible, it looks horrible that others see experience this. My jab :D is a reference to this page above the screen shot.

I keep seeing people adding comments on this and others saying "they're not going to add it so why do you keep commenting?" If we keep adding comments and upvotes to this problem, and people keep tweeting them and notifying the developers, there's a chance someone might say "hey we should add this feature," so keep trying!

Seriously 1 year already and this is still not implemented/ supported? I was bragging about how cool Discord is because you can do so much with it.... then tried to move a post from a channel to another and I see there's NO way?? Come on guys!!

There are a plethora of reasons this should be a feature, most of which have been listed here for over a year. The cons are actually mitigated by the fact that this would be controlled by an Admin.

Hey I'm a Project Manager, I'll manage this project for free!

This should absolutely be an admin feature, management of servers with multiple specific topic channels is a nightmare without as posts often have to be left for a long time whilst you wait for the user to copy/paste of their own accord.

I too would love to see this feature. As many others have said, when you have dedicated topics for each channel and people post in the wrong place... well it becomes a mess. Right now I'm just deleting posts and leaving a message why it was deleted.

How many upvotes does it take for them to ack something? Cmon already.

    @Shinigami

*Sigh* "Votes" are a pointless and empty farce.

Sort by the Comments instead to get a better indication of people's frustration and desire for a feature.

(Thought exercise: Which features should developers focus on more? The ones that happened to be on the front page where bored passersby take a peek and toss up-votes like pennies to beggars squatting on main street? Or the features buried deep that are still being specifically sought for by users and managing to garner more attentive discussion than anything featured on the over-bloated front page?)

This feature would be so helpful in cases of sudden needs for a new channel as well!

You can start rolling with this feature, Discord, don't let perfect be the enemy of the good. Let's assume nothing can be done about moving the same message id to a different channel. It's fine, just help the admins do what they can already do anyway: copy the message to another channel with something like "Message originally posted by X:" on top and just delete the original message. You don't even need to add anything new to the audit log, just count it as a delete action. Implement the basic feature as it's probably good enough for most people's needs.

Just here to show some support for a very long overdue feature.

I just tweeted at them regarding this issue and this thread as well. I am new to server administration, but the need for the feature became apparent almost instantly. I have a couple of older users in my group who are struggling to understand moving between channels, and it's making my server organization pretty useless.

How is this not a thing already? Even my server that has maybe 25 active people in it desperately needs this ability. I hate just deleting whole conversations that are actually good to have just because they're in the wrong channel. This is super aggravating. This is a basic thing that ALL mods and admin should have.

I am also an administrator on a Discord server and it seems obvious that this functionality is missing out on.
It is no coincidence that it is present among competitors such as "Forumotion" for example and many others.
But when I see that nothing is moving on this subject, the question is rather is this forum being viewed by officials at Discord?

It's a shame because apart from the problem, Discord is almost perfect!

Sorry for my bad English language translated by Google.

Yeah... Storyteller for a text-based RPG here... when someone posts in the wrong channel--IC stuff in an OOC channel, for example, I can *delete* it, but I can't re-post it without taking a screenshot and doing that myself... which in turn serves to embarrass the OP. We have people in 5 non-contiguous timezones, so often, we're dealing with tired players who accidentally post in the wrong channel.

Discord, PLEASE look at adding this feature. Without it, it makes it very difficult for me to take care of business in a way that doesn't alienate players.

@mesub  The servers that I moderate are frustrating without an ability to move messages.  It seems that no amount of lecturing, announcement-posting, or deleting messages will solve the issue of people posting in the wrong channel.  Either they don't care, or they don't pay attention.  I have a server with two channels labelled #chat and #memes.  I think it's fairly obvious what these two channels entail, yet every day memes end up in #chat and long off-topic conversations happen in #memes.  If I delete conversations, people get upset that the chat history is gone and their conversation was effectively ended.  If I delete memes, then they simply won't repost them (which leads to #memes channel being under-utilized).  And if I, myself, repost their memes for them, then they get upset that I "stole their meme".  It's a losing battle.  We really do need this feature.

@countofcounts If the Manage Messages permission was renamed, it might cause a bit of confusion due to the change itself, but indeed I think that is better than not renaming it if a split was made to add a second Move Messages permission.  (I didn't realize you were suggesting renaming the existing permission.)

I don't think anyone making this request would care if the permissions remained a single Manage Messages permission, or if it was split to Delete+Pin / Move or even ideally three Pin / Delete / Move, as long as a move operation became available.

(I think we are mostly in agreement... or even totally!)

I'm not intending to try to tell Discord how to implement it, and as a veteran server developer, I know this is not the simple change that others in this thread make it out to be. However, it is achievable and should be taken seriously and an attempt made to implement it in some form.

It is long overdue and really just needs to become available in some form, whatever form that the Discord developers deemed most appropriate.

Problem is that this feature doesn't have enough votes and there are plenty of other requests with more votes. Spread the word and keep upvoting the initial post!

Seems silly this isn't a thing. Please let this become a thing.

Please add this feature! I need to move messages of a type to a specific channel for easier access to information for my players!

Being able to click, drag and drop messages under an "edit mode" would be really sufficient, since most servers have their channels categorized we have a constant need/want to be able to relocate these messages to their correct channels. We get new people everyday and regulars that post media files, or off topic texts, personally I don't like making people have to delete to repost when there could be an easier and quicker solution. This is an occurrence that happens daily. "Edit Mode" could also act as a mass message mover, or mass delete, or even archive. That would be something nice to have on discord.

Come on guys? I'd be nice if you made it possible.
