Incoming Message Sound Only Plays When Using Other Sounds

This is kind of strange, but at some point a few months back I started noticing that I wasn't getting the audible incoming message sound. I still get the notification toast, but now I only get the audio when I have some other audio going, usually a Youtube video playing in the background, but it can be any other continuous audio from any non-Discord source. I have Windows 10, all my updates and drivers are current. The incoming message sound is turned on, and it plays fine when there are other sounds playing. I do realize that sounds wont play when Discord is the focus, but that isn't what I'm talking about. I've tried everything I can think of, including reinstalling Discord, putzing around with my sound configuration, with various Discord settings, but this thing happened abruptly and doesn't seem to be affected by anything I've done. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
