Wait, someone decided this was a good idea? If I want to find "Handling", don't show me "Handle".

May I ask what export system do you use?

Although, of course, an exact search is mandatory. Why the heck they dropped it?

Two years later and Discord is trying to be taken seriously as a platform for more than games...

I try to search for GUI and I get every single message in which someone says "guy" or "guys". Guess what Discord? When I'm trying to find something out about a Graphical User Interface, I don't want to see EVERY SINGLE TIME SOMEONE SAID "Hey guys!" ON THE SERVER.

Yeah, it's just a platform for casual gaming. Nothing more.

I'd love to see this implemented as well.

Is this seriously not a thing? What a major oversight.

I'm also having this problem because apparently, "factorial" = "factory"

The search basically turns words into wordroot*

Exact search should be default behavior.

i really can't believe exact search isn't an option. my search for 'braces' turns up so many results for 'braced', 'brace' - neither of which are useful as i'm looking for the noun 'braces'.

We were just discussing literature and I brought up one of my favorite authors (Jorge Luis Borges) and I knew we'd discussed him before on the server, so, not wanting to repeat myself, I searched for Borges, but got pages upon pages of irrelevant messages about the Borg from Star Trek, or the abbreviated term 'borg in transhumanist debates. We need an exact match function for the search feature to be usable and relevant.

This problem seems to apply to the "Explore Public Servers" feature as well. I was trying to see if there were ASL or deaf related servers listed there. Searching for "deaf" returns every game related server with "dead" in it's title or description.

Discord seems to be implying that correcting people's spelling is more important than the existence of minority groups. Either that, or the public server list isn't actually intended to be used, it's just for show?

I can't search the word "are" except by itself, as it gets ignored in multiple word queries. Does Discord pay any attention to this place?

Please stop ignoring the word "No" in fuzzy queries. It's a pretty important word.

people keep chiming in with different use cases for exact search, and im struggling to think of a use case for fuzzy search. it is literally useless. im searching for 'accessibility' and its giving me a million results for access and accessing. i just don't even understant the purpose of a search function that doesnt show you what you searched for.

Two years and counting. What an epic fail on Discord's part.

I want to search results with the word "Suggested" and without the word "Suggest".

How do I ping Discord staff to this thread?

    Dear Administration and Community,

Thank you very much for the project ✨

A RegEx option like `/^We got [0-9]+ mangos/` or at least just a static exact one like `"We got "` might work.

If they try to "relax" their servers then perhaps allowing RegEx only to Nitro subscribers, your own messages and exact for everything else might also be appropriate.

Please have a pleasant time and stay safe ^^

I search "optional" and get nothing but results for "options" How do i exact search? This is beyond annoying and I am a paying customer.

Yeah, it's just a platform for casual gaming. Nothing more.

    So True!!

Currently "Anime", "Animal", "Animation" are considered the same word. This is simply inexcusable.

It's becoming clear to me that the people who wrote the Discord search algorithm must have gone to the same school as the people who wrote Amazon's search algorithm.

Scenario: I want to search if anyone else has mentioned a plugin called Dialogic. Discord throws several thousand results that say "dialog" or "dialogs", which have nothing to do with the plugin called Dialogic.

This. It's stupid that a chat app this large doesn't have a decent search yet.

Came here because I cannot search for the word "controller" without it returning control, controlled, controlling, etc etc.  Please add this feature.  Only use it perhaps if someone puts double quotes around the string like all other search UI?

Want to search by a phrase, putting it in quotes even returns stuff which has the two words randomly appearing anywhere in a post. it's 2021

The fuzzy search considers "Internal" and "International" to be the same word...

  • macwinux

Come on now. It has been years and this isn't implemented yet.

I rarely use fuzzy search. It's almost always exact search. Other people probably do too.

You can do it like Google (and others) by putting like quotation marks on the word. Please.
