Exact search
Exact search would be nice to have, even as a filter, like exact:word.
Reasoning: Scenario 1 - I'm proofreading a novel, or website, or game text, or whatever. Submissions on a specific discord server (a couple of thousand so far). I find a misspelled common word. I'd like to check if it was already submitted: I can't, because due to approximate results thrown out, I literally get hundreds of results. All the other filters are useless in this case.
Scenario 2 - I'm moderating a server. I want to search the chat log for some words that we don't tolerate on the server. Some words throw out approximate results, again potentially thousands of them. Current filters useless again.
I'm sure there are other uses for this too. I'd also like to point out, that I'm not asking for partial vs exact word recognition, like 'dog' being found in 'doge', I'm talking about approximate vs exact word, like 'hers' found for 'heroes'.
If you'd like to see this implemented sooner rather than later, link the post in your discord groups, so others can come here and drop an upvote too - they'll only take it seriously if it reaches a few thousand votes.

Why is this dead?
Because there's no way to monetize it.

Discord is a small team. It's most likely these community support forms exist just to pacify us, to give a place for us to impotently whine. Now especially with talks of sales, the chances of anything happening here are next to nil. They don't care, they don't need to care, they don't have time, and nothing will happen.
I'm unfollowing this. Good luck all!
Edit: Oh, if you really need search, look into a bot that scans all the text and builds an external index for you. There is software for that, but I won't link it since it's unclear if they would consider some of that software a terms violation. Like all the non-electron versions that can run on low-resource machines. The ones where they ban the users instead of supporting or building their own.

Seems like a pretty visible red flag if developers let basic problems fester for so long people stop caring—because people who stop caring are people who have stopped using, which is a full stop for investors.

Discord, the people have spoken. Its just too bad if you cant find the thread.
1 -
Please implement this. It should take an intern 30 min, and clearly its a useful feature.

I'm the server owner of a D&D 5e Play-by-Post server. An exact search feature would help us with the following:
- Moderation
- Member engagement
- Information recall
Please implement an exact search feature, preferably through the common search tool use of surrounding text in single- or double-quotes

I'm playing a game that simulates financial interest rates, but I'm getting thousands of results for people just saying the game is interesting.

Search returns way too many false positives. It's ridiculous that it doesn't support common search syntax. "Died" and "dis" are completely different words, Discord.
2 -
The thing I hate the most is when a search system doesn't work like it Goddamn should.
If I want to search anything with a symbol, like "+",or just a fairly common word, like "and",I get nothing.
Why is this not fixed yet?
I don't think it's hard at all for this to be implemented.
You've replaced Skype, don't be as stupid as Skype is.2 -
Same, just the other night I struggled to find any record of a word I know for a fact I said to multiple people. No results. (The word was unmistakable as well--"moai.")

Got here from a google search because I'm having this issue. I'm trying to search if someone has mentioned an obscure hidden item ('tris') in a video game. I'm sure someone has mentioned it at least once, but because of this useless fuzzy search crap, I will never be able to find it. I get hundreds and hundreds of results for words like "tried" or "tries".

Dear Discord,
"Venue" is not "Venus". In fact, Venus would be a horrible venue.
Sincerely, JohnSmith777779

Discord really needs to fix this. The search function is literally unusable in most scenarios.

Have the developers of fuzzy search ever even used it? "herring" and "her" are not the same word. I've cancelled my Discord subscription until search becomes functional.

I was really needing this today and couldn’t locate usable results on the plethora of hits my search brought. How isn’t it possible in this age and time to not be able to use simple quotes to get an exact search on an app used by millions?
Partial search would also be lovely, not only by the algorithm used today but enforced using placeholders like an asterisk after or before a text string like if I want to locate the text Fellaini and I don’t remember the correct spelling, I could then search for fell* or *aini2 -
ThorZ, perhaps, everyone here tried to search an exact message, but "failed" and here we go with that discussion/suggestion.

Why is "﷽" an ignored character?

This is a must feature. Imagine searching for "AT&T" and the results are "don't, can't, won't, t"....
Come on Discord, let's get this in the next update, I believe in you!

I do like being able to search for 'freddy' and getting both 'freddy and freddie'... but if i'm looking for the name Mai- i dont want thousands of search results for 'may'
give us the ability to search for an exact string of letters please

If a character has a name similar to a word like "kai" you'll get a ton of results for every instance of "kay", which is incredibly annoying for seaching up potential gamedev issues in regards to balancing specific characters. really hope Discord looks into this feature after like 2 years

The word I'm searching for should only return a few results, instead I have to search through tens of pages and hundreds of results. Talk about productivity killer! :(
According to their help page for Search: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000468588-Using-Search
...they support a bunch of filters, most of which are useless and supposedly the "relevant" button searches for closer matches but that doesn't seem to help much as we have all found out. I like how 1674 out of 4215 found this helpful -- apparently nobody at Discord seems to care.
As others have mentioned there should be the option to put a word in quotes " to do an exact search. Even better would be regex support ;)
Does anyone at Discord even use their own software? This is almost as bad as Windows Search. I have a feeling whoever was responsible for allowing this feature thought, "Wow, this intelligent search is awesome!" and lest we must all suffer.

Do not forget to upvote the topic, people! It is currently on the third page of the all-time most requested features. Let's get it higher up, so they fix it.

apparently the larger a company gets the more incompetent and out of touch it becomes and starts changing things that dont need to be changed while ignoring glaring problems

Issue #27,831: Community ≠ Communication ≠ Communism ≠ Communalism

How is this not a thing yet? I keep finding the wrong search results because discord assumes I'm searching for something else and there's nothing I can do to fix that.

Terminal ~= Terminator
2 -
Do discord devs even look at these? Sorely needed commonsense feature

Plot twist: Discord is actually a tech industry experiment to see how frustrated users will get with a shitty user experience before they leave a platform.

For the love of god please add this

No Discord, "finale" =/= "finally" 🤦♂️
