If you install an mp3 app (VLC, eg) you can send it to that by default instead of your browser.

It worked by installing a separate app, thank you!
It still confuses me, though: I know for a fact the default music player on my phone can handle these files, and I'm positive even chrome could play it online if it didn't try to download it immediately!
Also, having an app for the entire purpose of using it to work around a shortcoming of another app, is just not good user experience in my book...

I agree. I think native support would be better (and gave the suggestion my upvote). Just figured I'd let you know about VLC to hold you off until if/when they implement it.

Yup, thank you for that! It's a good workaround to use until the real thing comes along

Best would be to also allow wav files to be played inside the ios app

Confirmed by discord support, this feature (inline audio player) is still not available on iOS after 2 years, get more people to upvote this feedback and they might have more reason to take a look at it! 👍

The reason is due to some limitations in iOS. However, every other messenger on iOS has this feature, so it is certainly possible to implement this, just that it will take some extra work and resources.

bump!! would love to be able to share / listen to mp3s knowing that people in the community will be able to simply listen without downloading another app

    Bumped as well.

To circumvent this i'm currently using a very light open-source app called OpenSound and found on F-droid. It loads the file almost instantly and opens an hovering window instead of going fullscreen.
A in-app solution would be very much appreciated though, as i can't browse discord AND listen to the sound clip at the same time currently.

Douzejou, how exactly did you accomplish this in Discord? I can't get Disc to stop opening the links in my browser, so I can't ever specify the OpenSound app for mp3s. OS also doesn't seem to appear in the app list to configure defaults for.

Also come on, Discord. What year is this? I shouldn't be having to download audio files to play them in a dedicated app like I'm on Windows 98.

Oh sorry it doesn't open right away fwr me neither, i too have my browser open and have tw navegate etc. I thought i'd just mention it since it helped shorten the time between downloading and listennig :/

It's been 4 fncking years on this! How is THIS NOT A FEATURE..
You've added in-app voice messages ONLY ON PHONES. So if anybody wants to send a message via PC, they need another software to record that, but then people on mobile CANNOT LISTEN TO IT?! and have to download the mp3 to play it?! What year are you living in?!

Either add the abillity to make voice messages on PC or add the ability to listen to mp3s on phones… seriously!
