Chat History After Leaving Server
I'm utterly boggled by this design choice. The Discord staff are proud to have a data structure that allows a server's chat history to remain indefinitely (and I'm thankful for it, a big reason I switched from Skype), but for some reason, they think anyone that leaves or is removed from a server wants their access to it deleted.
It makes no sense to me. Just because you leave a server, that doesn't mean there aren't beloved or possibly critically important conversations you wouldn't want wiped. I and a number of other people I know hang out silently in a dead server or two only because of the history; in the case of one server, it's where a few people talked to their now-deceased friend. If the server owner decides to "clean up" inactive members, those conversations will just go poof for those people. People kicked for any reason could be in the same boat.
I know histories are saved remotely, but categories seem to be a thing now, and it would be beneficial if servers a person has left defaulted to a separate category on the left, with the message "You are no longer a member of this server" in the location on the API where you would normally type. Access is granted to the chat log prior to the departure point, with no active member list. Have them remain in that form until deleted or hidden by the user, just like private messages.

You can still view user's chat history after they have left, enter their exact username#tag into the search bar as you normally would, it may take a few tries but it still works. 0 -
It is indeed a great idea. It’s something we CAN'T do currently (unlike some may have said). I also keep dead servers or even couldn’t do the server mergers I needed because of this issue. I 100% support the idea. -1
