Why does Discord show a red dot but never tell me where??

What other communication app gives you a generic notification in the system tray but gives you no way to jump from that notification to where the actual message is?  It's beyond useless because it doesn't go away it just sits there and annoys you with a red dot until you search out where the new message is. 

If you belong to a whole bunch of Discord servers, you have to go through every channel on every server to finally find whatever the hell may have mentioned you or @ed you or even @here or @everyone...

Muting servers or the whole Discord app is not a proper solution.  Please fix notifications so it actually tells you where the damn message is.  This is terrible design.
