Mobile Video calls lagging
-
Upgraded to an S10 a couple days ago from an S8. Still have my S8, so can confirm it works fine on that. However, S10 as reported here is very laggy and completely unusable.
I've gone and downloaded a bunch of older version APKs and tested EVERY version 15.6 to 25.3. What I found was version 21.6 works smoothly, but from version 22.5 this issue comes in. So something in that update must've been it.
For me the fix is to roll back to an older version (which isn't even natively supported by Discord as you have to use a 3rd party website). If you're on an S10, I would recommend rolling back to v21.6 via https://apkpure.com/discord-talk-video-chat-hang-out-with-friends/com.discord/versions6 -
I've been in contact with the Discord Team for about 3 weeks now.
I own a S10 Device and have been having the same issues above mentioned.
So far, we haven't been able to discover the issue yet, but I can tell you they know about it, have been very helpful and they really want this to be fixed asap.As soon as we know the source / a fix, I'll also post it here. (:

10 month old thread now. And this issue is still happening to what I'd assume to be a very large number of people. Is there even a single developer at discord working on this issue?
3 -
1 year since this major bug arose and still no solution! I no longer have a Samsung phone so I am not affected anymore but I believe for a company this large, have IGNORED this issue for this long and we should be more vocal about this! This seems to strictly be an issue with the vast majority of Samsung Galaxy devices and it is totally unacceptable. I urge every single one of you experiencing this problem that comes across this post to let your frustration be known! Let's fill this damn thread up and see if we can at least get a response from Discord!

This issue also occurs on the S20 ultra and discord haven't issued out any fixes this is absurd.

Can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet either.
Can confirm I have this weird video chat fps lag issue on my Note 9 and my Galaxy Tab S7+.
Although weirdly it's not as bad on the S7+, it lags down to about 1fps on my Note 9 and only about 10fps on my S7+.
It's also not a often on the S7+.
It laggy about 80% of the time on the Note 9 and 40% of the time on the S7+.
It never lags a single bit on my girlfriends s8+ or my parents iPad Pro 1st Gen.
Both of which are older and slower.
But man when it work (like on the s8+ / iPad) it works so good!
The quality is so clear and smooth.
I want to be able to use it so bad.
Please fix this Discord!2 -
It's honestly reaching a point that this is just absurd. It's been over a year I've started reporting this situation. I'm moderator on one of your partner discord servers, I work my ass off to keep one of your biggest communities running, the least I expect is for bugs we report to be fixed.
I've changed more than 20 tickets with your team, I've recorded videos, gave you logs, tested with various versions, with various accounts, pretty much everything you asked me to give you, I did. And here we are, one year later with most Samsung users facing the exact same issues.
Discord, if you want to become the worldwide recognized brand you so wish to become, you better start giving bugs like this more attention. It's literally Samsung devices, the android brand that shares most consumers with their products. This is starting to be unacceptable.
At this point I don't know if this is Discord's or Samsung's fault and honestly, I don't care. I just know you had more than enough time to test and improve and at the moment, you're proving being worth less than I've ALWAYS said you were. I'm highly disappointed with this. Also as a nitro subscriber for over 3 years I deserve better treatment.
I feel genuinely dumb for coming here every 2 weeks and see nothing changed.2 -
I honestly wanted to see if anyone else was having the problem. But from what everyone has said it has to do with newer phones with higher resolutions for the cameras. I don't think it's a bug at this point maybe a memory problem. JMask pretty much covered it before hand so I upped their comment.

I have the same issue here. On MacBook and iPhone discord's video call works fine. But on my Galaxy S10 the framerate is about 1 or 2 fps.
1 -
I think it's a Galaxy thing. I'm on S10 and my video calls look like they're 1-2 FPS too.
Meanwhile on PC it looks PERFECT.1 -
So far, we haven't been able to fix the issue.
I'll keep you updated. It's annoying, but they're really trying, asking for logs, etc. Most likely is some feature on Samsung's side that's messing with Discord during videocalls.
I've been providing everything I can so we can get to the bottom of the problem.

Begging for discord to fix this. The problem has persisted for well over a long time. I use a galaxy s10+, and I'm honestly gonna give up on android after this; too many persistent bugs in different kinds of apps. Discord has pushed me over the edge now...

FIXED: I had this issue on my Galaxy Tab 3, the trick for me was enabling hardware scaling in the voice and video settings, as recommended on this page https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002787571--Mobile-Video-Calls.

Maybe a Vulkan everywhere thing causing problems?
My Nexus 5X on Android 9.0 has no problems, but my sister's Galaxy A51 with Android 10 I receive a slideshow.
And her Enable Hardware Scaling always resets to off.
Just a thought.1 -
How in the heck can Discord let an issue like this stay? I seriously hope that they find the issue, I'll report another ticket to discord about this issue and tell them about what has been found out here.

I also have this problem on an S10. Shame that an official fix hasn't been found yet v.v

my only feel is that when the camera goes out of focus then back to focus is when it starts lagging

Got myself a brand new Galaxy S10+, lo and behold I can't video chat with my boyfriend because my camera is apparently at a 1-2 fps on his end, his video is slightly laggy on my end. It's a disgrace such a specific issue can be held so long, without even a single response from support. Do support even look at this threads? Doubt it at this point. Reverting back is an option according to previous message, but I don't feel comfortable doing that and I really shouldn't have to. Discord is a million users application, it should be able to fix this issue or at least acknowledge it. Shame.

It was a problem on my S9+ and it's still an occuring problem on my S21 Ultra

Tab s6 lite sound stream lags video 1-2 fps. I think it's Samsung problem. I am years of Xiaomi user and now that I got a Samsung device I can see that Samsung doesn't let you use the full power of your device. App usually are "optimized" causing big problems like low resolution slow internet connection and more. I hope this problem will be fixed soon

Still no fix. I started using chrome or edge as desktop site and it seems to work fine plus i can hear the chime when people enter or leave a server and pick different cameras the only downside is that screen share doesn't work on browsers.

Hi, I'm using the latest Discord Beta - 77.3 - and the bug seems gone. Galaxy S10e

I just got a Galaxy S21 Ultra and had similar issues. It's so sad that it's not solved (although vbop is giving us some hope). Thank you all for keeping this thread alive and communicating the issues to the developers, and suggesting possible solutions.

Just another reminder this is still a bug. Road to this bug being unfixed for a year and half and still nothing from Discord/Samsung.

I feel like this has something to do with mobile discord's compatibility with higher MP cameras.
When my partner and I started video-calling over mobile, I noticed this problem from his end, but he said my camera was fine. He has a Galaxy A50 (25 MP SelfieCam), and I at the time, had a low-budget Galaxy J2 Dash (5 MP SelfieCam). I recently upgraded to a Galaxy A51 (32 MP Selfie) and he says that Im having the same choppiness that he does.
Im also using the latest beta version, and that doesnt seem to have fixed anything in that regard. One thing i have noticed though, is that the video framerate gets significantly better in sudden bright light.
This issue is so fickle and i wish this thread would get Discord's attention already. He and I have had this problem since we started dating, which has been almost a year now. In that span of time Discord has had an entire re-branding with still no fix to this incredibly replicable problem. Disappointing. I wonder how we can get their attention?

I almost believe it's impossible, as the mart has already sent over 20 tickets and they haven't commented for 1 year. It would be nice if everyone recorded our cameras with lag and marked @Discord every day the video on their social networks. showing what it's like to be a Samsung user on discord. :)

And another bump, this is still a issue that discord doesn't fix. Galaxy S10.
1 -
Another bump because this is still a issue.

L is Gaming the problem is still there and is not fixed. noticed that the problem is definitely on the flagship lines of the Galaxy, I have friends with the lines A and J, they do not have it. I'm even thinking about buying the next smartphone from Huawei, if this problem is not solved =))
