I would like to chime in As an IT professional that utilizes VPN solutions. While yes they are used frequently for evading IP bans and trolling. The problem is that people like myself who frequently use public wifi or restricted network connections will end up getting the shaft. VPN's are frequently REQUIRED in order to get a working internet connection as many public wifi networks implement intentionally strict or incompetent port blocking my favorite example of this is the "Oops only 80" configuration where some paranoid idiot thinks that a public wifi configured to only allow traffic on port 80 or 443 will keep users safe from hackers but in reality has the unintended side effect of making the network connection unusable for discord email and pretty much any modern web service service so punching a hole through the NAT with a VPN on port 80 is the only solution. Now I know you all get up in arms about trolls bypassing bans but in the grand scheme of things my life has been a living hell because of the stigma and ignorance surrounding VPN services and with more and more sites doing this kind of global blocking of all vpn service IP ranges its making getting a stable working network connection on a public wifi networks more and more difficult and its also making people who are forced to disable VPN services more vulnerable to man in the middle attacks due to malicious actors on said public wifi network. and frankly my opinion of the matter and sorry for getting political is that this kind of behavior violates the tenants of net neutrality and is a form of discrimination against specific types of users. a VPN is essentially a ISP and what you are proposing would be essentially the same as globally blocking all users connecting to the service. Your ignorance also fails to take into account that residential ISP's use Dynamic IP addresses. All someone needs to do is log onto their ISP website and submit a request for a refresh of their modem and there is a good chance they will have a alternate IP without use of a VPN. You usually have to pay money to keep a static IP address. The simple fact remains IP banning does more harm than good and discord needs to move to hardware bans that use unique machine identifiers to block the specific computer that is being used for the trolling. I would also argue that there should be a law requiring IP bans to expire after a specified amount of time has passed to respect the fact that IP addresses are not individual people or even individual machines and are recycled on a regular basis

I agree with this suggestion more so then the guy who basically wants all vpns to be able to be permanently banned from being used just by a setting. with this, you can go with a case-by case basis, with the other suggestions its either let everybody with vpns in or let nobody with vpns in,and i dont think thats fair to all sides involved, more so slightly biased against the user trying to join then the one hosting the server.
