Disable video
as there is a server mute equivalent of the local mute feature i would like a server side equivalent of the disable video feature in order to prevent untrustworthy and misbehaving indiviuals from being able to send video to a voice channel in a server

I have similar concerns, please allow us to turn this off or ask permission before it shows a video window you can't remove without leaving the voice channel.

I too would like this. I have no intention of using the video window but it's just there.

I believe you can manage video here:
Server Settings/Roles/Video - allows you to remove video permission from "everyone". Using roles seems to give you complete control over who can send video. It is "on" by default; might be nice to have the default set to off.

Good to know but this solution is different from a simple "close this video pane" button that shouldn't be missing.\
This does nothing on servers I have no control of, for instance.
Perhaps it should be set to off by default, but there should be a simple "close this pane" button

Please add the ability to close the video window locally, I want to use voice I don't need Discord hogging all my resources displaying everyone's video calls on my second monitor.

On a low powered or old laptop, being in the channel when 1 or more are sharing video results in over 10% CPU & 15% GPU usage. I'd like to continue chatting with people and letting others feel free to see video, but I'd like to locally disable any video stream output from Discord.

I agree that this should be something to opt into by default, or at least be able to close it without having to leave the channel. When more then one person starts streaming in a channel... it starts hogging my network resources.

Live streaming a window and sharing video from a webcam should be considered different permissions but right now are the same thing. If I want to allow people to stream games in a channel, but disable streaming their webcams there is no option. Turning off video permissions stops all sharing, which is not the desired outcome.

Right click someone in a call and select "Disable video".
Unfortunately you have to do that operation for each participant who has video turned on.

Roland Disable video also mute that person. So that is a no go.
I want to hear them. But I won't be forced to look at them.0 -
Agreed, this is a much needed feature for all the reasons already stated.
