[Feature Request] Permission that prevents Role/User from @mentioning other users

Simple additional Permission option "Mention @usernames"
Which would toggle the ability for users to mention/ping other users.

Ideally, it would still let them auto-fill the username (like how people can use @all but it just doesn't do anything if they don't have the correct permission), however it would maybe put the usernames in plain-text in the message(as opposed to the hyperlink names).

As Discord currently exists, this is "True" by default for all users, so it would remain true by default when implemented.

This would be added to the two areas where permissions can be assigned:

  • As a Role permission in Server Settings
  • As a User or Role permission in individual Channel Settings


(I've seen a couple of similar posts, but none that appear to be as to-the-point as this.)

    Hello, as far as I can tell this has not been addressed and badly needs to be.

    As someone who uses discord to run a large community server as well as for general business and personal use, it's very important for me to have a clean notification feed.

    However, in the community server, we often get young or inconsiderate users who ping myself and other admins about frivolous things. There is currently no way that I know of to stop the incessant pinging from new users in the server. Muting the server doesn't mute pings. There are options to suppress @role and @everyone but not @username.

    This is incredibly distracting and frustrating for both my work and personal life. The ability to turn off mentions for roles would be super helpful. Suppression for @username mentions is an alternative option, but may remove the ability of a user to see actually important pings.
