Emoji in custom status and activity display

Since couple of days, having an emoji in your custom status override your activity. This was not the case before. I know custom status override your activity, but you could have only the emoji and the activity would still display properly.   Can confirm this used to work ever since the custom statuses were introduced, you could set ONLY an emoji as a status and it would display your activity along with the emoji of choice; now since a recent update, setting only an emoji as a status results in an empty status line and no activity display unless someone clicks on your profile.
