Ping multiple people through dropdown menu

I have recently been finding the dropdown menu you get when you type @[text] very useful. I have however struggled a little bit with the fact you can only pick one option from the list, and then it collapses.

I would like to see a feature implemented that allows you to pick multiple options from the list. This could, for example, be achieved by something like keeping the menu open if you hold shift and click an option. That way, you could keep shift-clicking options and then close the menu when you're done.
