Option to set my initial status to muted on startup/join channel
I would like to be able to set an option to set my initial status to muted:
a) on startup (ie. when launching the Discord desktop app), and/or
b) when joining a voice channel
.. but still have the option to unmute as normal when I want to talk.
Background:
I'm part of a team looking at Discord as an alternative to Zoom.
I like that Discord has permanent voice channels that we can sit in all day. So I'll sign in at the start of the day, join a voice channel, and then do some work. If someone happens to say something then I'd like to hear it, unmute myself and chat, and then mute myself and go back to work.
The trouble is I have to always remember to mute myself at the start of every day.
Zoom has an option to mute myself when joining a meeting and it's really convenient, because you can join a meeting to watch and listen, without worry about making noise while you type/have a coffee/eat food/get ready, etc.
I don't want to use push-to-talk. I want to be able to mute/unmute myself whenever I want, but I want my initial status to be muted.
Thanks

Toward the bottom of the screen on the left-hand side, you will see your icon, username, and then a microphone icon, a headset icon, and a gear icon. Click on the microphone icon and you will see a red slash go through the icon, this mutes you. When you join a call thereafter, you should be muted from the get-go.
You will remain muted until you unmute yourself to say something in a call and then you have to mute yourself again when you are done speaking. When you use the above-mentioned icon it is a one and done, you do not have to mute yourself at the beginning of the day every day, all you have to do is to hit the mute button again in the voice call/chat when you are done speaking.
